TU Delft is currently positioning itself in the new, very internationally-oriented world of education and research. This demands enormous effort from the organisation, its people and its systems.<br> It is therefore encouraging to observe that we were already able to reap the first benefits of these efforts in 2003. The number of new students entering the university increased by a remarkable 14% in 2003, breaking a lengthy downward trend. The number of mechanical engineering students actually doubled. This was undoubtedly due at least in part to the success of the solar-powered car Nuna II, which won a race across Australia in October and clearly demonstrated that engineering can also be fun.
