DRS Laboratories, Inc. manufactures the Mini-CD System (MCS). The MCS is a portable, self-contained chlorine dioxide decontamination device. It is designed to offer a safe and effective procedure for certification and maintenance staff to decontaminate Biological Safety Cabinets (BSC’s), Isolators, Incubators, Exhaust HEPA Filter Banks, Pall HEPA vent systems and spaces up to 2,700 cu ft. Historically, formaldehyde gas has been the most widely used decontamination agent in the industry. However, with formaldehyde being classified as a carcinogen, the industry is moving away from this agent. While using the MCS, a typical BSC decontamination can be performed in less than 4 hours with a low consumable cost. The MCS decontamination procedure is validated to give a high level of a successful kill in order to access a contaminated plenum or to decontaminate potentially contaminated laboratory equipment.
