Adapting to Climate Change requires local strategies capable of mitigating its impact and producing policies to reduce emissions. ECOGESTUS acts in the planning and establishment of policy and actions, covering the following points.

We studied the success factors of urban cleaning, contributing to the qualification and attraction of the municipal space. We create innovative littering prevention solutions (bottles, cups, packaging, plastic bags, etc.).

We are committed to investigating solutions to the problem of marine pollution, in particular the challenge of microplastics. We collaborate with university entities to develop strategies to mitigate the problem of plastic accumulation on the coast and at sea. We model the data acquired using GIS techniques and identification of residues and contaminants. Waste monitoring activities are underway on the central coast of the country.

ECOGESTUS has experience in Base Studies in the area of Urban Waste management: Physical-chemical characterization campaigns according to European standards. Survey, analysis and diagnosis of UK management systems. Evaluation of operating costs and productivity. Prediction of the quantities of waste produced. Waste Prevention and Minimization Plans. Tariff systems applied to waste. Elaboration of Specifications. Strategic Waste Plans and Market Studies. Education and Awareness Actions for Recycling.

The scheduling of collection routes, ideal frequency, load optimization and resource distribution models, are objectives to be achieved by our intervention. We survey and analyze data from the waste collection circuits. This knowledge base allows the management entity to apply IT planning tools, optimizing resources and reducing operating costs.

Ecocenters are public equipment, with controlled access, for the collection of waste, especially large dimensions such as monos, appliances, wood, tires, scrap, garden waste, among others, in addition to recyclable waste such as plastics, paper/cardboard, glass, … etc.

We elaborate actions that promote the elimination of architectural and urbanistic barriers, through the applicability of the legislation in force (DL nº 163/2006, of 8 August), thus contributing to the construction of inclusive cities and towns.

Risk is understood as the probability that a given event will occur in the future, generally associated with events that jeopardize the well-being of the population, biodiversity, the quality of the environment and that damage the heritage. It is important for us, through the means we provide, to present a series of solutions that are capable of managing that same risk, allowing prevention, anticipation and quick action.

ECOGESTUS promotes Environmental Awareness by informing people about environmental problems and their solutions. Transforming citizens into agents of change is our goal. Awareness raising is therefore a fundamental component in the evolution towards a more sustainable model of society. We create specific environmental awareness programs for Waste, Health, Climate Change, Sea, Green Spaces, Biodiversity, among others.

Within the scope of the municipal solid waste management strategy (MSW), the Municipal Green Waste Composting Center is installed, installed in the Municipal Garden, whose main objective is to transform the organic matter into a natural fertilizer (compost), through a process called composting.
