Dense medium separation

ESR International LLC patented a unique bi-directional dense medium barrel that proved to be the most accurate dense medium separator ever employed in the separation of a variety of materials ranging from carrots and potatoes to plastics and non-ferrous metals (US patent 5,373,946 of Dec 20, 1994). This invention was further supported by two additional patents: US patent 5,495,949 of March 5, 1996 and US patent 6,024,226 of Feb 15, 2000.

Esr`s Bi-Directional Barrel

Twenty years ago all dense medium (DM) separators on the market were mono-directional, with floats and sinks reporting on the same side of a relatively short horizontal drum. This concept fails for four basic reasons.

Dense Medium Separation - Automobile and Industrial Waste - ASR

Since 1991, ESR International LLC has applied its bi-directional dense medium separation technology to the recycling of automobile and industrial waste. For many years ESR’s principle client in this regard has been the Galloo Group. At first the Galloo staff was not convinced that a carrot separator could compete with the classical dense medium separators on the market at that time. So they set up a trial on <12mm automobile shredder residue, running half of the test material through a conventional Wemco drum and the other half through this modified carrot separator.

Dense Medium Separation - The Blackett Barrel

From 1981 to 1990, ESR International LLC specialized in the reclamation of abandoned coal mine sites. By redesigning and modernizing the old Blackett barrel technology popular in the North of England as far back as the 1890`s, and by adding up to three stages of autogenous medium cyclones to rewash the <6 mm fines, ESR was able to sell over 35 of these dynamic effect separators in Holland, Germany, Belgium, France, Serbia, the United States and China.
