Wetland Delineation

Watercourses and wetlands in New Brunswick are given protection under the Watercourse and Wetland Alteration Regulation of the New Brunswick Clean Water Act.  Permitting through the New Brunswick Department of the Environment Watercourse and Wetlands Alteration Program is required if any proposed alterations to watercourses or wetlands are planned. Any project that has the potential to impact a wetland with an area of 2 hectares or greater, and/or its regulated 30 m buffer, must be registered through the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulation of the New Brunswick Clean Environment Act.  The Fisheries Act, through Harmful Alteration, Disruption, or Destruction of fish habitat authorizations, protects New Brunswick’s fish-bearing streams.

Environmental Impact Assessment

It is becoming increasingly important to assess the environmental consequences of any development before it is initiated.  Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA’s) are often required by legislation such as the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA) or the Environmental Impact Assessment regulations of provincial Departments of the Environment. The overall aim of such an investigation to review the areas adjacent to the proposed development with a view to identify potential environmental concerns before construction begins.

Site Professional Services

Fundy Engineering has been involved with numerous site remediation projects ranging from residential fuel oil spills to both active and decommissioned commercial gasoline operations and large industrial facilities. Our expertise with commercial and larger, more complex remediation projects includes both ex-situ and in-situ remediation techniques.  In the past, we have provided project management and consulting services for soil excavation, soil disposal and soil replacement projects for cases above and below the groundwater table.  We have installed systems to treat impacted soil and groundwater using vapour extraction systems, pump and treat systems, french drains, cut-off walls and oxygen releasing compounds.

Groundwater Sampling & Monitoring

Fundy Engineering provides groundwater sampling and monitoring for a variety of client services.  We have the knowledge, expertise, and equipment to fulfill industry-accepted practices for sample collection, storage, handling, transmitting, and interpretation of results.  Fundy Engineering is experienced with laboratory procurement, laboratory procedures and performance, and the applicable guideline parameters established for drinking water quality. Fundy Engineering has undertaken various projects related to groundwater sampling and monitoring, including:  dump site closure studies and monitoring; free product recovery from impacted potable groundwater wells; aquifer salt water intrusion monitoring; coliform identification, analysis, and removal for the purpose of potable water consumption; and, water chemistry analysis for use in the aquaculture industry.

Site Investigation

Fundy Engineering has completed hundreds of geotechnical site investigations for various clients, including all levels of government, commercial and industrial operations and private homeowners. In general, the purpose of a site investigation is to determine the suitability of the soil for construction. A site investigation is usually the first step to any construction project. This generally includes a test pit or borehole investigation, depending on the site conditions. Upon completion of the site investigation, the client will receive a report including documentation of the soil profile, a CAD drawing of the test locations and the geotechnical recommendations for construction.

Forensic Investigation

When failures occur, a technical analysis is often required to determine the cause and make recommendations to avoid further failures. Fundy Engineering’s broad experience provides its clients with a valuable resource to accurately identify the causes of failures and how they may be prevented.

Air Conditioning & Ventilation

Provision of adequate of quantities and quality of air as well as proper ambient temperature are critical to human comfort and health. Ventilation codes have changed in recent years and the efficiency of the subsystems are now under careful scrutiny. Proper planning at early stages can produce an efficient system that is cost-effective and prevents maintenance and performance problems. Fundy Engineering can carry out load calculations, selection of system components, and air conditioning and ventilation system design to ensure installations are carried out with optimum efficiency and capital and operating costs.

CAD Services

The drafting department at Fundy Engineering uses the latest in Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) technology to complement our engineering and design services in a wide range of disciplines. Our multi-disciplined drafting department has experience in preparing full mechanical, electrical and geotechnical engineering site plans, detailed drawings, HVAC system layouts and electrical schematic diagrams as well as environmental site plans and GIS mapping.

Building Automation

Fundy Engineering has expertise in the integration of building systems to operate as `smart buildings`. Automated systems can include lighting, fire alarm, heating, ventilation, air conditioning controls, security and Building systems. These systems may be integrated so that the detection of motion will energize lights, activate air handling systems, change set points, etc. These measures save money through energy-efficient environments for workers and ultimate control for building operators reducing downtime and improving overall productivity.
