Wetland Delineation
Watercourses and wetlands in New Brunswick are given protection under the Watercourse and Wetland Alteration Regulation of the New Brunswick Clean Water Act. Permitting through the New Brunswick Department of the Environment Watercourse and Wetlands Alteration Program is required if any proposed alterations to watercourses or wetlands are planned. Any project that has the potential to impact a wetland with an area of 2 hectares or greater, and/or its regulated 30 m buffer, must be registered through the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulation of the New Brunswick Clean Environment Act. The Fisheries Act, through Harmful Alteration, Disruption, or Destruction of fish habitat authorizations, protects New Brunswick’s fish-bearing streams.
