Environmental Consulting for Industrial / Manufacturing Operations
Services provided by Gandalf to industrial and manufacturing clients include the development of groundwater and surface water monitoring programs to identify potential issues that could impact their operations or result in expensive and unnecessary clean ups. Gandalf can assist in negotiations with regulatory bodies for Waste Discharge Permits and Compliance Reporting as well as assistance with Pollution Prevention strategies. Gandalf can also prepare and submit the annual NPRI reports for its clients as well as prepare Environmental Reports for financing purposes.
Environmental Consulting for Real Estate / Land Development Applications
Site Profiles are often required by developers or land owners who wish to develop their land and may trigger requirements for contaminated sites investigations. Investigations may require the collection of water, soils and soil vapour samples to confirm or refute the presence of contaminants. Investigation programs should not only consider onsite activities but may also consider adjacent sites and those in the vicinity that would have had the potential to impact the site. Care must be taken in the planning and execution of these investigations to ensure that all contaminants are investigated for and also to ensure that the sampling plan does not become a "fishing expedition". Gandalf is pleased to review the client’s requirements and take a preliminary look at reports or the site to provide an opinion of the potential scope of work, if any, that may be required.
Contaminated Sites Work
There are estimated to be upwards of 25,000 sites in Canada impacted by the historic release or spills of chemicals into the environment. Gandalf will provide services including the evaluation of contaminated sites, planning and implementation of remedial strategies for contaminated sites, and regulatory liaison to ensure compliance with existing acts and regulations. Often described as Stage I and Stage II (Phase I and Phase 2) Preliminary Site Investigations (Environmental Assessments), these investigations can be triggered by the sale of a property, the decommissioning of a site, or for re-zoning applications. Gandalf can expedite the process by arranging for rapid field investigations and negotiations with government agencies.
Roster Review
The Ministry of the Environment established the Roster of Approved Professionals to reduce its backlog and allow it to focus on high-risk sites. Under the Environmental Management Act, ministry officials may issue, based on the recommendation of these Contaminated Sites Approved Professionals, a contaminated sites legal instrument such as a Certificate of Compliance or Determination, without internal review. Gandalf has Approved Professionals on its staff who can provide these Roster Review services.
National Pollution Release Inventory
Gandalf can screen your company to see if you are required to report under the National Pollution Release Inventory (NPRI) program, and can prepare and submit the NPRI reports, if necessary
Pollution Prevention Planning
Pollution prevention (P2) plans are required in many industries as a measure of the environmental due diligence of the corporations. P2 plans include aspects of environmental auditing to identify potential noncompliance points with respect to existing regulations, and to plan for the replacement and/or reduction of the use of hazardous chemicals. P2 plans can include aspects of environmental management systems which can be incorporated to provide annual or quarterly monitoring/performance.
Groundwater Resources
Gandalf provides Consultation Services for the development of Groundwater Resources in a variety of applications.
