Radiation Protection Monitors
Helgeson - Do-It-Yourself Whole Body Counter for Internal Dosimetry
The Helgeson 'Do-It-Yourself Whole Body Counter' is designed for personnel monitoring at nuclear facilities, laboratories, and hospitals, offering a cost-effective solution to assess internal contamination. This device measures the total body burden of gamma emitters and provides an estimation of their deposition sites within the body, utilizing a scanning geometry known for minimizing errors associated with non-uniform source distribution. Notably, it offers superior positional response compared to conventional chair or organ counters. The system is equipped with a choice of detector configurations, including NaI(Tl) and HPGe, and integrates advanced analytical software for comprehensive data analysis. The software supports continuous spectral display, data graphs, and allows for parameters modification aligning with ICRP standards. Environmentally, it operates efficiently between 5 to 50ºC and 30%-80% humidity, requiring specific AC power supply and lead shielding for optimal performance.
Helgeson - Whole Body Counter for Internal Dosimetry
The Helgeson 'Quicky' In-Vivo Counter is designed to enhance health physics programs through efficient whole body counting. This device swiftly screens personnel, providing rapid results while maintaining accuracy for more precise outcomes through fixed counting times. Results are reliably documented, specifying subject identification, counting time, and recording in units such as Becquerel or Nano curies. This system streamlines regular counting protocols, potentially lowering associated costs. The 'Quicky' features intuitive software, complete with a menu-driven interface and a variety of operational programs, including a Quality Assurance module that monitors system electronics. It offers energy calibration capabilities to ensure uniformity and alignment with design specifications. The system supports data acquisition with continuous spectral display and analysis, providing calibration options for energy versus channel, efficiency, and FWHM versus channel. Operational management includes parameter modification and dose calculations as per ICRP guidelines, endorsed by the Spanish Nuclear Council. Physically, the system is robust, with dimensions of 230 cm by 90 cm by 130 cm, weighing approximately 3000 kg and operating on standard power requirements. It incorporates advanced detectors with precise resolution capabilities, all enclosed with protective steel or lead shielding.
Waste Characterization and Ffree Release Systems
Helgeson - Waste Characterization System for Drums
The HS-DRUM is an advanced waste scanning system specifically designed for the detailed evaluation of activity distribution within waste drums. This system is equipped with multiple detectors such as HPGe and NaI, along with a dose rate meter. It is engineered to provide a comprehensive characterization by utilizing a multi-channel analyzer for spectrum analysis, a rotating table for enhanced operational flexibility, and a roller conveyor for streamlined processing. The system includes a unique frisking mechanism for acquiring wipe samples, and lead collimators are used to optimize detector performance. Calibration dummies with varied sources ensure system accuracy, supported by sophisticated software that handles spectrum analysis, activity calculations, and features a QA module. Furthermore, it accommodates theoretical calibration through MONTECARLO modeling, crucial for nuclear research and radiation safety applications. This system is suitable for processing drums with capacities of 180 L, 200 L, and 400 L.
Helgeson - Free Release Monitor for Waste Containers
The HS-FRM is engineered as a robust free release monitor, designed for assessing radiation levels in various waste receptacles, including drums, containers, and big bags. Its construction involves a chamber shielded from external natural radiation, integrating detectors across the four side panels, ceiling, and floor to ensure comprehensive radiation detection and quantification. Equipped with high-purity germanium (HPGe) and sodium iodide (NaI) detectors, the system features lead shielding of up to 10 cm, allowing effective measurement while minimizing background interference. The software is capable of distinguishing gamma isotopic compositions and managing different volumes or areas within the measured container. It performs continuous real-time analysis to account for background variations, aligned with UNE-EN ISO 11929-1:2021 standards. The system supports a maximum weight measurement of 1500 kg with an internal scale precision of 0.5 kg and allows remote control and monitoring aided by automated doors and conveyor mechanisms.
Waste Treatments
Helgeson - Descaling System for NORM Waste
The descaling system offered by Helgeson is designed specifically for the removal of scales from pipes and metallic equipment in the oil and gas industry. The system operates using high-pressure water jets of up to 1400 bar, effectively cleaning and removing scales without the need for chemicals, which simplifies water treatment and disposal. It features a fully automated process requiring only supervision, and a manual cleaning booth is available for operations that require meticulous human intervention. The system's portable nature allows it to be deployed to various sites, facilitating extensive cleaning campaigns. It accommodates tubulars measuring 2 to 5 inches in diameter, extendable up to 14 inches, and lengths ranging from 5 to 11 meters, upgradable to 14 meters. Additionally, it offers a closed-loop water treatment system, preventing the generation of contaminated liquid waste. High pressure pumps used in the system have a rate pressure of 1400 bar and operate at a power of 132 kW on a 380V/50Hz 3-phase supply.
