Huckbody Environmental has been operating since 2002, starting with provision of Environmental and Social Management services to BP/BTC oil and gas pipelines in Georgia. The company moved on to providing Environmental Management to National Grid for the Milford Haven high pressure gas pipelines to Gloucestershire. Several UK commissions followed including a Master Plan development in Russia and advice on a national motorway project. The company then Project Managed the large ESIA for a new oil refinery in Cairo, Egypt and has recently completed management of an ESIA for 1100km of upgraded highway in Kazakhstan, part of the $3 billion investment in the road from China to Russia. The Company was then requested by the World Bank to develop the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) for the Project, to manage land acquisition and compensation for agricultural land, commercial structures and residences required for the Project. 2009 has seen the company provide EIA and EMP for motorways in Serbia for the World Bank and now EMP for the Qatar-Bahrain Causeway for the design consortium QBCC. A short mission to Tajikistan for the World Bank looked at HSE due diligence for the huge Rogun Hydroelectric power project.

Other inputs for the World Bank included Green Investment Schemes in Poland and EIAs and EMPs for the National Water Supply and Sanitation Project in Azerbaijan.

The company Director has 30 years’ experience across 29 countries, specialising in EIA, Environmental Management Planning and on-site construction of large scale infrastructure projects. Specialist inputs to major infrastructure projects started in the early 1990s; from 1996 to 1998 Andy was the Environmental Manager for the EMAP on the Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge Project in Bangladesh. A 1 $ billion highway project linking East to West Bangladesh. Andy was responsible for monitoring and supervising the contractor compliance to the established environmental standards and reporting the findings to the Government of Bangladesh and the International Financers, who included World Bank, Global Environment Fund, Japanese Bank et al.

The Environmental Management Plan worked in conjunction with the social/resettlement plan, which managed the enforced resettlement of over 100 000 people and provided alternative employment and income generating opportunities. Involved micro-credit from the newly established Grameen Bank.

The Director continued to broaden his experience by managing the ESIA and all Environmental and Social aspects for WorleyParsons and African Minerals Ltd (AML), for the Tonkolili iron Ore project in Sierra Leone. Andy then transferred across to African Minerals as their General Manager for Environment, where he is responsible for all environmental aspects for AML, including development of Policy, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), practices and an Environmental Management System (EMS); covering construction of ca. 300km of new rail, redevelopment of a large port facility and an expansive green field iron ore mine. AML is a junior mining company developing the green field Tonkolili Iron Ore project.

We provide inputs to a range of projects, specialising in major infrastructure in the oil and gas, transport and energy sectors. Our extensive experience enables us to project manage or provide specialist inputs, integrating with existing project teams and consultancies.

Operating since 2002 and building on 25 years’ experience across 26 countries in major infrastructure projects and bridging the gap between producing EIA reports and construction, the company is well placed to provide expert inputs to the evaluation and implementation of development projects.
