Contaminants Removal System
GreensandPlus - Iron & Manganese Removal Systems
H&T developed and patented the continuous regeneration process for iron and manganese removal in 1963. This process used a feed of chlorine and potassium permanganate upstream of a manganese greensand filter to keep the catalytic manganese dioxide coating of the manganese greensand media regenerated. Our method became the industry standard for the next 40 years. In 2005, H&T introduced GreensandPlus, the next generation in manganese dioxide–coated catalytic filter media. GreensandPlus has all the same physical properties of manganese greensand, so it can be used interchangeably, but GreensandPlus has many operational advantages over the old media.
Nitrate Removal System
H&T has extensive experience in the field of removing nitrate from drinking water. We have built anion exchangers as part of demineralizer systems to treat boiler feed water in power plants since the 1950s. Having installed many large demineralizers for some of the largest electric utilities in the country, H&T has a long, established background in ion exchange. Our vast experience has enabled us to develop a thorough and efficient process that conserves the amount of salt used and minimizes the amount of waste produced by a treatment system.

H&T - Ion Exchange
Ion exchange involves the exchange of undesirable cations or anions with more benign cations or anions on the surface of a polystyrene resin. The resin is then regenerated using a concentrated brine solution. Ion exchange can be used to resolve hardness, treat nitrates, remove radium and many other contaminants extremely effectively. Ion exchange has been successfully used to remove PFOAs from drinking water using a strong basic resin.
H&T - Reverse Osmosis System
Reverse osmosis refers to using pressure to push raw water through a semipermeable membrane which only allows H2O molecules to pass through. This method can create ultrapure water devoid of contaminates. Reverse Osmosis can be used for desalination as well as contaminants removal and has seen increasing use as water resources become more scarce.
H&T - Demineralization System
Boilers systems used in the power and laboratory industries require protection from suspended and dissolved material which impact the longevity and operation of piping and valving. H&T demineralizer systems utilize ion exchange technology in a number of configurations to provide high-purity water for a number of industrial and power utility applications. H&T offers typical two-bed, cation/anion systems, with or without degasification, depending on alkalinity, or two-bed systems with mixed-bed polishers. H&T Demineralizer Systems can be designed for smaller commercial clients with package boiler systems (hospitals, universities, etc.). Also, our experience providing large EPC engineering companies with demineralizer & condensate polishing systems is well known in the Power Industry.
H&T - Condensate Polishers
With the advent of higher pressure boilers and more restrictive feed water requirements of turbine manufacturers, the ion exchange equipment manufacturers were called on to meet the challenge of purifying very large quantities of water which contained very small quantities of both dissolved and suspended contaminants. The major dissolved contaminants were sodium, chloride, and silica, while the suspended contaminants were oxides of iron and copper.

H&T - Potassium Permanganate Color Monitor
The Hungerford & Terry Permanganate Color Monitor Plus provides for the continuous monitoring of water treatment plant effluents that use potassium permanganate in the treatment system, such as the H&T GreensandPlus CR (continuous regeneration) process. The color monitor continuously views a sample taken as a sidestream from the plant or filter effluent. Spectroscopic quality optical filters in the sight tube then identify, if present, the specific color for potassium permanganate.
