Analytical Services

Method Development Services

We continually strive to develop analytical methods that add value and meet new legislative requirements.

Asbestos Testing Service

We offer a wide range of asbestos services. In accordance with HSE regulations, the analysis of materials for asbestos  must be undertaken by an accredited laboratory. We have ISO 17025 accreditation for asbestos identification in both bulk materials and soils together with asbestos quantification in soils.

Ground, Surface and Wastewater

We can analyse groundwater, surface water, process water, wastewater and effluent water samples. As part of our analysis range, specifically designed to meet the requirements of the Contaminated Land (Site Characterisation) Industry, we provide environmental testing analysis of groundwater, surface water, wastewaters and effluents. Our clients include Environmental Consultants, Remediation companies, Local Authorities and the Environment Agency.

Waste Acceptance Criteria Services

We test a huge range of components as part of our Waste acceptance criteria testing. Within the UK the Landfill Directive (implemented through Council Directive 99/31/EC) aims to prevent, or to reduce as far as possible, the negative environmental effects of landfill. Waste needs to be classified to strict guidelines and only waste of the correct category can be accepted at specific landfills.Certain waste cannot be land filled e.g. liquid, explosive etc. WAC testing is predominately aimed at simulating the amount of hazardous substances that would leach from the waste through the passage of rainwater.

Contaminated Land

i2 Analytical provide a wide range of analysis designed specifically to meet the requirements of Contaminated Land specialists including Remediation experts, Geotechnical and Environmental Consultants, Engineering Consultants, Redevelopment Contractors and Site Investigators. Our specialist contaminated land laboratories are well equipped with sophisticated analytical instrumentation including ICP-OES, ICP-MS, GC-MS, GC-ECD, GC-FID, HPLC, GC-MS QQQ, LC MS and Continuous Flow Analysers and Discreet Colorimetric Analysers operated by highly qualified and experienced analysts. We routinely undertake environmental testing analyses for contaminated land, marine sediments, top soil and waters. The laboratory provides a range of testing options, including a full topsoil suite of UKAS accredited tests covering nutrient analysis, physical properties, pH and conductivity and phytotoxic contaminants to BS3882:2007.

Project Co-ordination Services

Our project development services ensure you work with a dedicated point of contact throughout your project. For each project there is a dedicated point of contact, a Laboratory Assistant who understands each individual analytical and reporting requirement. The project co-ordinator, as well as responding to all queries, will ensure that sample container delivery, sample collection, sample registration, sample analysis and report formatting and report deadlines are completed as requested on time and to budget.

Environmental Forensics Services

SPE & Extraction Services

Often overlooked in the laboratory, sample extraction is the first key step in providing accurate and reliable results. Samples can be extracted in suitable solvents for analysis via semi-automated solid-phase extraction; liquid:liquid extraction using a number of solvents; ultra-sonication; mechanical shaking, including high-speed vortexing and incubated flat-bed shaking.

HPLC & Fraction Collection

High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is a tried and tested analytical technique suited to higher level (part per million, ppm) analytes. HPLC is cited in a number of EPA, NIOSH and OSHA methods for the determination of a wide range of compounds such as formaldehyde and diisocyanates. By developing these methods we are able to offer numerous compounds in other matrices, for example formaldehyde in soils and waters and anti-oxidants (e.g. MIT, CMIT & BZT) in process boiler waters. To further expand the capability of this area we have a separate HPLC with fraction collection. This is a ‘must have’ for the determination of PCBs in biota and marine sediment, as well as environmental oestrogenic compounds as it allows separation of the significant matrix background from the ultralow levels of target analytes.

Azodye Metabolites Services

There are many thousands of natural and synthetic organic dyes, some of which are permitted in food products and some of which are not. Examples of natural organic dyes include cochineal, saffron and woad.

Nitroaromatics/Explosives Services

Nitration reactions are notably used for the production of explosives, for example the conversion of guanidine to nitroguanidine and the conversion of toluene to trinitrotoluene (TNT). Since the mid-1800s nitroaromatics have been used extensively as explosives and propellants and the following suite also contains commonly associated by-products and metabolites.
