IMR Test Labs services
Chemical Analysis Laboratory Services
ICP-MS Analytical Services
ICP-MS analysis (Inductively Coupled Plasma / Mass Spectrometry) is a very sensitive elemental testing technique that provides very low detection limits for most elements present in a sample. Low-level elements are identified for the following: Process solutions and chemical baths. Ion release elements in medical simulation solutions. Heavy metals in medical applications and wear debris testing.
Powder Characterization Services
Powder characterization testing refers to a set of analytical techniques used to measure and describe powders` physical and chemical properties. These tests can help to determine essential powder properties such as flowability, compressibility, particle size, particle shape, density, and flow measurement, among others. As a result, the tests are essential for understanding the behavior of powders in various industrial processes, including manufacturing, processing, handling, and storage stages of production. This ensures uniformity between batches, as well as predictable manufacturing outcomes. Powder characterization is used in various industries, and the results of these tests can help manufacturers optimize their processes, improve product quality and consistency, and reduce waste and costs.
Metallurgical Testing and Metallography Services
Coatings Testing and Evaluation Services
IMR`s Coatings Testing Labs are the world’s preeminent Thermal Spray Coatings labs. Located in the NY and Singapore locations, we perform routine and advanced coating metallography examinations on thermal spray, plasma spray and diffusion coatings. We support R&D efforts, provide overflow testing, perform failure analyses and production control testing for most of the major aerospace OEMs. Our Singapore laboratory is the only non-US GE Central Coatings Lab and serves GE suppliers throughout Asia and Europe. The US laboratory is the only independent lab in the world with Pratt & Whitney Code 7i approval for coatings evaluation and also holds AJ Code approval for a number of GE coatings.
Microstructural Analysis Services
Aggressive and abusive, out of tolerance, machining conditions can cause surface and subsurface damage to the machined component. Improper material feeds, speeds, or dulled tooling can leave high-stress areas where cracks can initiate. Although the damage may be subtle, these very small defects can result in distortion in the microstructure, which can lead to failure of the part or component, resulting in premature repair or replacement. Microstructural analysis specializes in evaluating machined surfaces for evidence of damage. IMR Test Labs has the ability to perform the high-precision sample preparation needed to be able to resolve the subtle near-surface distortion and damage characteristics of non-optimal machining conditions. IMR Test Labs has a number of highly trained and experienced metallographers in all 5 of our labs.
Non-metallic Composite, Polymer Testing
Polymer Testing of Physical Properties
Polymer testing using physical test methods ensures the viability of your nonmetallic materials under a variety of stresses. Our polymer-composite testing lab performs re-life testing and material certification before you start laying up your parts or as receiving inspections as you enter mass production.
Polymer Mechanical Testing Services
Mechanical testing of polymers is used to determine the mechanical properties of a polymeric material. It can be used to evaluate a material independent of its geometry and also at defined geometrical conditions. There are a wide variety of mechanical testing methods that can be performed when evaluating a material, but the goals for testing are common: Obtain material properties and characterizations for Finite Element Analysis. Check the quality of your cure cycle with simple tests such as tensile testing and short beam shear. Test different material lots or batches for comparison.
Others
Failure Analysis Services
Our failure analysis services include the evaluation of metals, polymers and composites, welds, coatings, finished products and more. IMR`s failure analysis experts have performed thousands of failure investigations, and have experience with a wide range of failure modes, materials and industries. IMR`s Metallurgical Engineering staff will provide insight into the contributing factors of the failure to prevent future recurrence. In addition to our state-of-the-art microscopy and prep labs, IMR utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach with a full chemistry lab, polymer testing, and well equipped mechanical and fatigue labs. This eliminates the need for costly and time-consuming outsourcing, getting you results on a much faster timeline.
Corrosion Testing Services
During the materials selection process for an industrial application, an evaluation of different materials and how they react in a specific operating environment is required. Exposure of materials to simulated corrosion circumstances provides the following analytical data:
Estimated Service Life/Durability. Comparison of Candidate Materials. Performance Expectations in Operating Environments. Material Suitability to Final Applications.
