Karesh Environmental Services services
Air Emissions Services
Major activities in the air quality field include: Preparation of construction permit applications; Air modeling studies using both SCREEN and ISCST3 models; Preparation of Title V and Conditional Major Permit applications; Developing compliance plans for Title V permits & MACT standards; Selection/recommendations of control equipment for reducing emissions; Emission Inventory Reporting (point source reports). A typical construction project includes reviewing the plans and equipment specifications for a new equipment installation, estimating emissions from the new source, determining applicable regulatory requirements, air modeling, and preparation & submittal of the permit application.
Wastewater Treatment Services
Our activities in the wastewater field are directed at developing cost effective and reliable solutions to your wastewater problems. This can take the form of optimizing existing treatment systems or developing new treatment techniques for specific wastes. One recent project was to upgrade a large biological treatment system to handle a raw waste with a high BOD (> 10,000 mg/l BOD). Another recent project was assisting an industry with a small physical-chemical pretreatment plant to increase the reliability of the system so that “disturbances” were not seen in the local municipal system.
Solid Waste Treatment & Handling
Our experience includes designing landfill additions and evaluating disposal options for solid waste handling. For example, one project looked at a land application alternative for a low nutrient semi-solid industrial waste that had been landfilled for over 15 years. Another project looked at growing an agricultural crop from a discarded waste stream. We have also designed groundwater monitoring networks for landfills. Other projects have been for groundwater collection and treatment systems. In one project, we replaced five individual well pumps in a collection network with a single vacuum ejector pump. This change was made because the high iron concentration of the groundwater was clogging the well pumps and shutting down the collection system. Our innovative installation virtually eliminated the maintenance on this collection system.
Miscellaneouse Environmental Compliance Audits
These audits are often done for new clients to determine the compliance status of a facility. We typically look at all environmental areas – wastewater, air, solid waste, hazardous waste, CERCLA, groundwater, stormwater, etc. to determine if a facility is meeting the state and federal requirements. A comprehensive report is prepared outlining the findings and recommending action as appropriate.
