Excellence. It is the foundation of everything we do. What began in 1884 with two hardworking brothers has grown into a Fortune 500 construction, mining and engineering powerhouse.
Kiewit’s ethical, forward-thinking workforce continues to build upon the company’s reputation of safe, high-quality engineering. Consistently ranked among the top five of the Engineering News-Record Top 400 Contractors, our company is a leader in a variety of market sectors throughout North America and, most recently, Australia.
As an employee-owned company, Kiewit’s assets are managed by the people who know our work best. For us, business is personal. As our own stakeholders, we are invested in every project we take on. We continuously strive to build high-quality work at the lowest cost.
Our philosophy on safety is simple: Nobody Gets Hurt. Knowing that one lapse in judgment can lead to catastrophic events, the safety of the men and women on our job sites and the community that surrounds our projects is always first.
Kiewit never stands still. Just as our founders relentlessly chased their dream, we continue to chase new and exciting opportunities
What began with two brothers and a dream has grown — 130 years later — into one of the largest construction companies in North America, with a growing presence in Australia. Throughout Kiewit’s history, we have built roads that connect the world, dug canals to carry water to thirsty lands and bored tunnels through mountains. We build. We mine. We shape the landscape and create energy solutions. And we do it all with integrity, never compromising our ethics.Core Values
Since its inception, Kiewit’s culture has thrived on strong principles. From generation to generation, the torch has been passed down and carried by the hands of our leaders and workforce. Today, our core values remain our company’s cornerstone and are the sum of our business ethics conduct.
People. Without our safety-minded workforce, our company would cease to exist — it is that simple. That is why we hire the best and brightest minds in the industry. And by providing the best training, we watch our employees strengthen their skills to further our company’s success.
Integrity. We conduct our business and personal affairs with the highest levels of integrity. We take responsibility and accountability for all our words and actions. We are honest, straightforward and deal fairly with everyone. Operational and financial records are maintained accurately and truthfully — no exceptions.
Excellence. At Kiewit, we never stop raising the bar. Consistently focused on high quality production, we commit to excellence in all we do. We encourage new and innovative ideas with forward thinking. We build our work right the first time, delivering with a sense of urgency, the highest value to our clients.
Stewardship. Every day, we realize the role we have as stewards in our communities and on this earth —after all, we work in our own backyards as much as we do yours. By preserving our legacy and developing a new generation of leaders, we are building a stronger organization for future employees and our owners of tomorrow.
Bruce Grewcock, Kiewit’s president and CEO, has steered the company to excellence since 2004. He is only the fifth person to assume leadership of the company in its modern era. Peter Kiewit, Bob Wilson, Walter Scott Jr. and Ken Stinson preceded him. In 2012, Grewcock was chosen as chairman of the board.
Kiewit had 2012 revenues of more than $11 billion and consistently ranks among the top five contractors by Engineering News-Record. We have virtually unlimited bonding capacity and are one of the few construction firms able to compete for billion-dollar mega-projects. However, our organizational system of local operating districts enables us to also take on smaller contracts.
