Digital Elevation Model
The Digital Elevation Model obtains the z coordinates of value in conjunction with the x and y. The elevation values are specifically distinguised as; roads, buildings, bridges, vegetation, water, etc.
Digital Terrain Model
A topographic model of the bare earth – terrain relief. The data files contain the spatial elevation data of the terrain in a digital format.
Contours
Lines which connect points of equal elevation, are drawn on a topographical map in order to quantify the elevation at any point on the map. Where contour lines are spaced closely together, it means that the topography is very steep. Where the lines are spaced farther apart, it means that the terrain is more gently sloping.
Orthophotos
A photograph that has been enhanced such that features on the map have been registered to either a DEM or a DTM in a way that allows for accurate measurements of features and relationships between features, directly on the photograph. This means the map can be scaled in any direction.
