Mer-Made Vacuum Diatomaceous Earth Filter Assemblies are a very efficient and compact type of filtration. VDE systems are also approved by government agencies for potable water treatment. The purpose of this type of filter is to keep the water clean and clear by removing debris, algae, cysts, and other particles that make the water cloudy.   The Mer-Made VDE assembly can be installed in a space about one-fourth of the size required for sand filters of the same capacity. In both operation and maintenance, the D.E. system is easier to install, uses the least amount of horsepower, and is lower in cost over the life of the filtration system. 

Modulating or float valves are used in surge tanks or vacuum D.E. filter tanks when the top of the tank is at an elevation above the maximum pool water level. In this type system, the water level in the surge/filter tank will rise to the same level as the pool water level when the system is shut down. The walls of the tank must be slightly higher than the pool water level. If this is not the case a tight closing level control valve must be used. Modulating float valves are not tight-closing, in fact, our valves are designed to pass some flow when the ball is in the up or "closed" position, so as not to stop main drain flow entirely. The optimum operating condition for the float controlled valve is between 60% and 70% open.

Concentric or eccentric reducers are used to properly reduce into and out of circulating pumps. Pump connections are usually smaller than the lines coming to and from the pump. Bushings should not be used to accomplish this reduction as they cause excessive pressure loss and water turbulence. MER-MADE reducers are made to two different overall lengths, depending on the reducer size to allow for standardization. Shorter or longer lengths can be made special order to fit a specific situation. The reducers are rated to 50 psi pressure rating and the flanges are flat face with 150 lb ANSI drilling patterns.
