Chemical Sensors

MicroLab - Thermistor Temperature Probe for Laboratory Use

The Model 103 Thermistor Temperature Probe by MicroLab is a robust and precise instrument designed for reliable temperature measurements within the typical laboratory range of -10°C to +110°C. Constructed from a durable 1/16-inch diameter stainless steel tube, and featuring a Delrin handle, this industrial-grade sensor is distinguished by its low thermal mass, enabling rapid responsiveness approximately three times faster than standard educational alternatives. Its electrical insulation from the shaft allows the thermistor to be deployed without interference alongside electrochemical sensors like pH, dissolved oxygen, or conductivity sensors. The device applies the negative temperature coefficient (NTC) and adheres to the Steinhart-Hart equation for its temperature response, providing high resolution and low noise measurements. Ideal applications include experiments related to phase changes, heat of reaction studies, and physical property investigations.

Electrochemistry Modules

MicroLAB - Electrochemistry Metals Kit

The Model 151 Electrochemistry Metals Kit is specifically designed for conducting experiments related to the electrochemical series and the Nernst Equation. This comprehensive kit includes two 5 cm lengths of high purity wire for each of the following elements: copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), iron (Fe), lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), aluminum (Al), and silver (Ag). It enables users to perform oxidation-reduction experiments and explore the effects of ion concentration, temperature, and electron transfer on an element's position within the electrochemical series. Sandpaper is included to facilitate the cleaning of metal samples, enhancing their usability across multiple experimental trials. Ideal for educational settings, the kit supports hands-on learning and application of electrochemical principles.

Visual Spectrophotometer

MicroLAB - Visual Spectrophotometer for Emission and Absorption Spectra Analysis

The Model 141 Visual Spectrometer by MicroLAB Inc. is a pivotal component within a modular spectrometer system, designed for the precise analysis of visible region emission and absorption spectra. This instrument integrates a sample holder and an adjustable slit assembly, offering three laser-cut slit widths—760, 380, and 125 microns—that influence the spectral resolution and light throughput. With a full width half maximum resolution of 6 nm at its narrowest slit, this spectrometer ensures consistent accuracy across the spectrum. Components like a collimating lens and diffraction grating strategically placed from the slit facilitate the creation of detailed spectra. It supports various methods for viewing or recording the spectra, including direct observation, video camera usage, or cell-phone camera integration. The Model 141 enables extensive experimentation, such as examination of line and band spectra, wavelength calibration, and determination of spectral profiles, supporting a broad scope of spectrophotometry applications.
