In autumn 2009, MÜNZER Bioindustrie GmbH emerged from a merger of Ewald Münzer GmbH and BioDiesel Vienna GmbH. In general, the consortium MÜNZER, which was founded by Mr. KommR [Councillor of Commerce] Ewald Münzer (image on the right), started during the 1990s as part of the extensive corporate activities of the parent company (Ewald Münzer GmbH) which partly exceeded the usual object of the company. Under the direction of the MÜNZER Group, amongst others a company for trenchless pipe rehabilitation (MM Kanal-Rohr-Sanierung GmbH) as well as a waste disposal company (STE KANAL- UND TIEFGARAGENENTSORGUNG GMBH),which is based in Salzburg, were founded.

At the end of the 1990s, the foundation of Biodiesel Kärnten GmbH and the associated construction of the then most modern biofuel production plant in Austria meant the entry in the renewable energy industry. This project was realised together with the province of Carinthia and the Rudolf Group. As part of the corporate activity of the MÜNZER Group within the biodiesel production industry, NEO Natural Energy Oil HandelsGmbH was founded in 2003 for the sourcing of raw material for the biodiesel industry in Central Europe.

In 2004, the MÜNZER Group decided to withdraw from Biodiesel Kärnten GmbH with regard to an independent development, and with the foundation of BioDiesel Vienna GmbH and the associated realisation of the biggest and most modern biodiesel plant in Central Europe set an example within the biofuel industry, which was unprecedented until then in the whole of Central Europe. In doing so, it was the first time that a biofuel production plant was implemented in a European inland port with a direct line to the biggest buyer (1st biodiesel pipeline in Europe) and an unprecedented logistic concept. Furthermore, with the implementation of BioDiesel Vienna GmbH Vienna became the first European capital with a biodiesel plant and thus the first biodiesel capital in Europe.

In autumn 2009, the companies of the MÜNZER Group, of which the focus is on the production of renewable energies, were merged to MÜNZER Bioindustrie GmbH under the direction of the managing partners Ewald-Marco and Michael Münzer.
