There are nearly 1200 Soil Testing Laboratories in India which in the present scenario are not sufficient to cater soil testing needs of the farming sector. Access to these laboratories for farmers is not available due to their long distance from village. Because of lack of knowledge on fertility status of soils there has been indiscriminate use of fertilizers which is considered as one of the major reasons for the loss of soil productivity. There was a long felt need of a quantitative soil testing kit to bring awareness among the farmers and benefits of soil testing that paves the way for balanced use of fertilizer and increase in productivity.

Using this portable soil testing kit developed at ANGR Agricultural University, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, one can analyze soil at field level and know the soil fertility status on the spot.
