Our business is organized along three business segments: Neo Chemicals and Oxides, Neo Magnequench (magnetic materials and alloys), and Neo Rare Metals. Through these segments, we are engaged in the production, processing and development of rare earth and zirconium-based engineered materials; magnetic powders; and rare metals including gallium, indium, rhenium, tantalum and niobium.
Neo Performance Materials is built upon a longstanding track record of producing and supplying advanced materials that meet or surpass even the most demanding needs of our customers worldwide. The company itself is the result of the fluid evolution and combination of several entities dating back to the invention of Neo powder in 1982, and progressing to the merger of Magnequench and AMR Technologies in 2005 (forming Neo Material Technologies), the subsequent acquisition by Molycorp, Inc., in 2012, and successful transition to a private company in 2016.
Neo Chemicals and Oxides manufactures and distributes a broad range of light and heavy rare earth engineered products that have become an indispensable part of modern life. The major rare earth elements produced and sold by Neo Chemicals and Oxides are cerium (“Ce”), lanthanum (“La”), praseodymium (“Pr”), neodymium (“Nd”), dysprosium (“Dy”), and yttrium (“Y”). We process semi-finished light rare earth concentrate (“LREC”) and heavy rare earth concentrate (“HREC”) into standard and highly-engineered rare earth oxides and salts.
From our production facilities in Zibo, Shandong Province, China, and Sillamäe, Estonia, we process LREC into Ce, La, Nd, and Pr oxides and salts, and produce value-added, engineered mixed oxide products for use in automotive emission-control catalysts, petroleum refining and other chemical catalysts, hybrid and electric vehicles, water purification, and a number of other applications. Our Sillamäe plant also manufactures tantalum and niobium, among other rare metals, for our Neo Rare Earths business unit.
Our Jiangyin production facility in Jiangsu Province, China, processes HREC into constituent elements for use in a multitude of industrial applications, including high efficiency lighting and displays, high-end optical lenses and consumer electronics.
Neo Magnequench, with over a quarter century of manufacturing experience, is the world leader in the production of magnetic powders used in the manufacture of bonded neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnets. Our powders are used in automotive motors, micro motors, precision motors, sensors and other applications requiring high levels of magnetic strength, small size, improved performance, and reduced weight.
Our materials team designs new powders to cater to specific market needs by combining unequalled knowledge of both the rapid solidification process and alloy compositions. Modifications to the metallurgical process and the alloy systems are considered in tandem in order to deliver enhanced magnetic or mechanical attributes of the powder as defined by our customers and the markets they serve.
Our applications scientists and engineers are dedicated to working with magnet users to model the behavior of bonded NdFeB magnets at initial design stages. This cooperation with the magnet user enables it to perfect the application’s design for optimal cost performance by leveraging our industry-leading research and development facilities and our extensive commercial knowledge of the magnetic and rare earth industries.
Neo Rare Metals produces, reclaims, refines and markets high value niche metals and their compounds that include gallium, indium, rhenium, tantalum, and niobium. These products are used in a variety of end use applications ranging from wireless technologies, LED lighting and flat panel displays to turbine, solar, steel additives, and electronic applications, among others.
Our rare metals business is truly global, serving customers across North America, Europe, and Asia. We have production facilities in Quapaw, Oklahoma and Blanding, Utah in the United States; Peterborough, Ontario, Canada; Sagard, Germany; Hyeongok Industrial Zone in South Korea; Sillamäe, Estonia; and Hejin, China.
