Laboratory Services

NIVA`s laboratories analyse the chemical components of water, sediments, sludge and biological material, primarily for NIVA`s projects. We also have laboratories for biological classification, ecotoxicological testing and an algae culture collection. We have broad and long established experience in method development, consulting and problem-solving in such analyses and in the quality assurance of laboratories.

Environmental Contaminants Services

NIVA works with contaminants in all areas of aquatic ecosystems. Research on environmental contaminants is one of NIVA`s main areas of work. We have performed nationwide monitoring of aquatic environments for decades and have accumulated long-term series of environmental data. NIVA scientists are experts in how contaminants behave in water, sediments and food chains with fluctuations and changes in the environment, e.g. climate change.

Environmental Monitoring Services

NIVA monitors conditions and changes in aquatic environments. Distinguishing between changes that are due to natural fluctuations and those that are caused by human activity is an important challenge.

Measures Against Pollution Services

Measures Against PollutionClimate changes, population growth, urbanization and the altered use of land, industrial and agricultural activities are some of the factors contributing to water pollution. Such a large proportion of the world`s deposits of groundwater and surface water is now so polluted that it poses a threat to humans and aquatic organisms.
