Our story kicked off with a major event—a massive flood in Alberta, Canada. It was a chaotic time that forced our founders, and many others, to evacuate their homes. This situation really highlighted how outdated traditional communication methods like TV and radio were when it came to getting emergency alerts out quickly and effectively. After the flood, we teamed up with the Alberta Government to roll out Canada’s first provincial emergency alerts that go straight to smartphones. This was a big deal and got noticed by other provincial emergency management agencies, as well as businesses and schools that were dealing with similar communication issues. We realized that the old ways just weren't cutting it, and there was a real need for a more modern approach. As we worked alongside Emergency Managers from different sectors, we noticed a big challenge: reaching out to people who might be missed because of language differences, spotty cell service, disabilities, or varying comfort levels with technology. This realization inspired us to create Alertable—a user-friendly mass notification system tailored to tackle Canada’s unique communication needs.
