Pipe Supports / Spring Hangers
Variable Spring Supports
Variables use coiled springs to support a load and allow movement. The resistance of the coil to a load changes during compression, which is why these devices are called `variables`. There are many different designs for variable supports and a particular nomenclature used to identify them. The term `type` is used with an alphabetical designation (A-G) to describe seven different physical connections to the supporting structure. The figure below illustrates the applications and the physical connections for each type. Hangers are suspended from structural members while base supports (Type F) rest on a supporting surface.
Pipe Expansion Joints
Hinged Pipe Expansion Joint
Hinged Pipe Expansion Joints contain hinges or pivots which allow the unit to bend in a single plane. These units are designed to restrict axial deflection, either in extension or compression. The hinge mechanism is typically designed to accept full pressure thrust. Also, because of the hinge mechanism`s design, shear loads, such as from the weight of adjacent piping, can be accepted by this pipe expansion joint, relieving the piping designer of having to provide additional supports and anchors required by the Single type.
Pipe Hanger Hardware
Pipe Clamps
A pipe clamp is a bolted pipe attachment which clamps around the pipe to connect the pipe to the remainder of a pipe hanger assembly. Piping Technology & Products, Inc. maintains an extensive inventory of pipe clamps required for pipe hanger and support assemblies. The pipe clamps and risers can be manufactured with galvanized or black finishes depending upon customer specifications.
Mechanical and Hydraulic Snubbers
Hydraulic Snubbers
Most hydraulic snubbers have a piston which is relatively unconstrained in motion at low displacement rates. At high displacement rates the piston `locks up`, that is, the force required to move the piston increases substantially, usually as a result of the closing of a valve.
Pre-Insulated Pipe Supports
Cold Pipe Shoes & Anchors
A cold shoe is a pipe support used for cryogenic applications where heat transferred to the surface is not desirable. A pipe anchor is a support used to anchor cryogenic pipes for axial, lateral, and rotational loads. These supports can be used for temperatures down to -300° Fahrenheit.
