Cans
Recresco is determined to make recycling as easy and cost effective as possible. To this end we like to offer a broad range of products. Our "Used Beverage Container" (that"s Drinks Cans by the way) collection service runs side by side with our other collection schemes. All metal Cans should be put in the blue Can Banks and we will separate them into Steel (magnetic) and Aluminium (non-magnetic) using automatic machinery back at the processing plant. Once we have baled the separated Cans they are sent to the foundries to be made into a huge variety of metal products.Plastics
Plastic bottles are everywhere. We use them all the time. They are also very expensive to recycle. Just a few bottles take up a lot of space. This means that a large lorry can only empty a few Plastic Bottle Banks before it has to travel back to the depot to discharge its load. This is not an environmentally friendly way of recycling. So at Recresco we have developed a completely new way of collecting plastic bottles. A specially designed, unique processing unit is fitted to all of our plastic collection vehicles. The banks are emptied by high pressure vacuum systems and the bottles are passed through the processing unit. This enables the bottles to be reduced in size and compacted to a very high degree. Recresco plastic collection vehicles can collect 10 times more than a normal vehicle the same size.
Glass
Every time you put a glass container in a bottle bank or kerbside box you make a difference. You see, if you hadn"t recycled that bottle or jar, it would have been dumped at a landfill site and never used again. However, thanks to your efforts it"s now in the recycling stream, which means that instead of being wasted it will replace raw material when a new bottle or road is being made, and save space at a land fill site. Well done! Glass is 100% recyclable, that"s why when we reprocess your glass bottles and jars, we don"t waste any. After your glass bottle or jar is collected by the recycling vehicle, it is brought to a reprocessing plant. Recresco have three of these, located in Southampton, Nottingham and also in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. The glass arrives in Lorries that carry up to 29 tonnes at a time. Every lorry that brings recyclate to the site is weighed and the information entered onto a computer system. This way we can tell your Local Authority how much glass has been recycled in your area. Once the Lorry has tipped its load in our storage bay, and when we have enough of one colour glass, we put the pile through the processing plant. The glass is picked up using a large loading shovel, and then tipped into the primary sort hopper. The glass is now carried on conveyor belts and vibratory feeders to the different parts of the processing plant to be cleaned.
Tetrapak
Liquid Food And Beverage Cartons. Liquid food and beverage cartons are becoming increasingly more popular with manufacturers, and are being used as packaging for more and more products every day. This is because they are made mainly from a 100% recyclable material - WOOD! This in turn means that they are better for you, me, and the world we live in. Since July 2007 Recresco has been working with Tetra Pak, one of the world"s biggest suppliers of this type of packaging, and over 100 Local Authority"s in England and Wales. We collect cartons from recycling banks, like those used for plastic, and also from wheelie bins from over 500 sites every month. The cartons are brought back in our collection vehicles each day to several conveniently located processing depots where they are baled and stored ready for collection by Tetra Pak. Every lorry load of cartons that are collected is weighed in so that we can report back to the Local Authority"s every month and tell them how much has been collected from their area.
Collections
Recresco empty Bottle Banks nationwide. We use specialised lorries with custom built equipment. We also supply Bottle Banks for local authorities and others. The lorries have two separate compartments inside and collect two colours at once. Brown or Amber bottle banks take longer to fill up so we normally empty them much less often. When deciding what to put into the bottle bank it"s good to follow a few general rules.
