RenewableUK is the UK's leading not for profit renewable energy trade association. Our vision is for renewable energy to play a leading role in powering the UK.
Harnessing the UK’s power for growth
Wind, wave and tidal energy are essential for our future. As an island the UK has some of the best natural resources in the world for these technologies, RenewableUK believes deploying them can generate significant power and benefit for the UK. Our role is to maximise this opportunity.
At the Heart of the Industry
As a trade association, RenewableUK acts as a central point of information and a united representative voice for our members. We conduct research, find solutions, organise events, facilitate business development and networking, and promote the benefits of wind and marine renewables to government, industry, the media and the public.
We have a large corporate membership ranging from small independent companies, to international corporations and manufacturers active in UK wind and marine energy. Our board of directors is made up of key individuals from the membership, many of them industry leaders in their own right. Members also contribute to RenewableUK’s activities through our strategy and support groups.
A Strong Heritage
RenewableUK was formed in 1978 as The British Wind Energy Association (BWEA). The association has gone from strength to strength – mirroring the growth of an innovative industry. Our mission expanded in 2004 to champion wave and tidal energy, and our name changed to RenewableUK in 2010 to reflect these new technologies and our vision for the future.
Our vision is for renewable energy to play a leading role in powering the UK’s homes and businesses. We aim to be the voice of authority for the renewable power sector, trusted by all those we interact with, providing a credible source of information and knowledge for our members, the industry, the Government, the public and the media.
We exist to champion the generation, deployment and use of renewable power.
Our role is to act as a catalyst for policy change to support the maximum deployment of wind, wave and tidal energy in the shortest possible time. We seek to maximise their benefits to the UK as a whole. We are a member-led organisation, which represents the best interests of the industry by influencing Government at all levels, providing a voice in the media, building consensus with stakeholders and raising awareness among the general public. We provide a forum for the industry and interested parties to gather to discuss issues of importance, do business and forge working relationships.
Our work is led by a Senior Management Team and supported by a Board of senior industry figures with a Business Plan setting out our work and priorities.
Collectively our members employ over 250,000 people - from international energy companies to small companies keen to build new markets and ready to disrupt our energy market with new products and services.The UK has some of the best natural resources in the world for these technologies. Renewables have proven their ability to deliver, and alongside gas and nuclear will be central to keeping the lights on and powering our economy. Our role is to maximise this opportunity and create the conditions that will see the renewable sector continue to thrive here. To help us achieve this, we are focusing on;
- Onshore wind - our low cost route to energy security
- Offshore wind - the UK opportunity
- Wave & tidal - Britain’s place in the ocean energy race
- Our future energy system - how red tape is hurting consumers and stifling innovation
- Energy storage – the here and now of building a smart resilient network
