Laboratory measurements are often the cornerstone for the geomechanics studies required in the design of underground excavations. The Materials Testing Laboratory at RESPEC provides all the testing and materials characterization services needed for rock salt applications. Our services include routine and custom-designed testing and analysis programs to resolve specific salt mechanics problems and regulatory concerns.

For the past 25 years, RESPEC has provided engineering and field services to meet customers` on-site needs. The Materials Testing Department is housed in RESPEC`s corporate headquarters located in Rapid City, South Dakota. More than one-third of the 30,000-square-foot headquarters building has been designed especially for rock testing, sample handling, and storage. Three laboratories comprise the department and are supported by separate shop facilities for sample preparation and storage, calibration, and records archival. Dynamic, high-quality measurements of displacements and strains can be made by using video monitoring technology, even in situations that do not allow access or instruments. In 2007, Imetrum launched a measurement system for video monitoring (known as Video Gauge™) that has become the video monitoring standard. Video Gauge™ provides measurement versatility far beyond any other technology on the market and has many benefits that ultimately save the user time and money. RESPEC is Imetrum’s partner for equipment sales and measurement consulting services. From large-scale, structural monitoring to small-scale, laboratory testing, Video Gauge™ is adaptable to provide appropriate displacement-measuring resolutions and frequencies.

The water resources group provides world-class expertise using innovative approaches and solutions to help clients understand complex water resource issues.  RESPEC scientists and engineers conduct holistic and comprehensive physical, biological, and chemical evaluations.  We identify sources of pollution and their impacts; develop practical, cost-effective goals and strategies; and assess progress toward goals after implementation.   Modeling and statistical analyses are part of the many tools RESPEC uses to enhance the understanding of the watershed process and to enhance our client’s decision-making process.

RESPEC has been conducting a wide variety of environmental management services for public- and private-sector clients for more than 25 years. RESPEC employs a core staff of registered Professional Engineers, Professional Geologists, and technical support staff. Our expertise in water resources and geological characterizations is partnered with our network of specialist subcontractors for survey services, including soils, vegetation, wildlife, and cultural resources. RESPEC`s multifaceted team is able to complete projects that involve a combination of environmental sampling, environmental assessment, and permit preparation.

Understanding, protection, and management of water resources are critical to our future.   RESPEC’s extensive knowledge of groundwater resource techniques and analysis methodologies enables us to focus our approach to each groundwater resources problem. We develop cost-effective, practical resource evaluation and monitoring programs. RESPEC’s engineers have written groundwater computer programs, designed and installed field instrumentation for surface water and groundwater monitoring, and simulated hundreds of hydrological problems.
