Laboratory measurements are often the cornerstone for the geomechanics studies required in the design of underground excavations. The Materials Testing Laboratory at RESPEC provides all the testing and materials characterization services needed for rock salt applications. Our services include routine and custom-designed testing and analysis programs to resolve specific salt mechanics problems and regulatory concerns.

For the past 25 years, RESPEC has provided engineering and field services to meet customers` on-site needs. The Materials Testing Department is housed in RESPEC`s corporate headquarters located in Rapid City, South Dakota. More than one-third of the 30,000-square-foot headquarters building has been designed especially for rock testing, sample handling, and storage. Three laboratories comprise the department and are supported by separate shop facilities for sample preparation and storage, calibration, and records archival. Dynamic, high-quality measurements of displacements and strains can be made by using video monitoring technology, even in situations that do not allow access or instruments.
