Large Petroleum Groundwater Remediation
Ridge is currently managing one of the largest petroleum releases in the state of Georgia. Approximately 30,000 gallons of diesel fuel has been removed from the subsurface of the site to date. At the project onset, free phase hydrocarbons were present over a 1.5 acre portion of the site at thicknesses of over 8 feet. After only 7 months of active system operation, the free phase product was reduced to less than 0.5 foot in 55% of the site and to 1.5 feet in the remainder of the site. The success is attributable to unparalleled cooperative efforts between the client, the Georgia EPD, the GUST Trust Fund, and Ridge to allow the initial implementation of the proprietary technology known as the Ridge Method. 100% of the funds spent by the client have been reimbursed by the GUST Trust Fund during Ridge’s involvement in the project for the first 16 months. Ridge designed, built and is operating the remediation system at the site. The system is a highly adaptable one that is designed to recover and recycle diesel in pure form with a minimal volume of water and off-gas generated. The liquid recovery stream has contained an average of 27% free product during the active remediation phase.
Complex Soil Remediation Project
Ridge staff managed a complex soil remediation project for a petroleum release at the Miami International Airport during the multimillion dollar construction of Concourse A. The site activities occurred simultaneously with significant overhead construction and immediately adjacent to subsurface communication utilities that were vital to the operation of the airport. The work was performed simultaneously and in cooperation with contractors performing the concourse construction and the jet fuel line installation. Free product was present on the shallow groundwater surface. A total of 13,000 tons of contaminated soil were removed during the project.
