Ronan Engineering Company, a privately held corporation, started business in May 1959 as Ronan Panel Company located at Orion Avenue in Van Nuys in a 2200 sq. ft. building. The main goal of the company was to manufacture instrument control panels for the petroleum, cement plant and power station business. The major products accomplished at this facility were as follows:
- Control Panels for the main utilities installed in the Los Angeles Airport.
- All of the control panels to monitor the air-condition system installed in the Los Angeles Museum.
- Main control panels to monitor the air-condition system installed in the Universal Movie facilities.
- Provide one of the first attempted paid TV venture systems.
- Prototype our first product being X1D3 tricolor indicator.
The name Ronan was chosen because the first landlord company was named Ronan Plastic Company and had insisted we use the Ronan name to improve his image by posing as a company that was associated with his company.
Three years later, in 1962 we formed the Ronan Engineering Company since the long term goal was to build a company to be more in the instrument and control field. The Ronan Engineering Company was now to be our main company we obviously wanted to incorporate Ronan Engineering Company but were denied due to the existing Ronan Plastic Company Name. As unfortunate as it was, Ronan Plastic Company declared bankruptcy in the year of 1963 which in turn permitted Ronan Engineering Company to become incorporated in the state of California.
Ronan Engineering has enjoyed continuous growth over the years as a result of innovative management dedicated to the fulfillment of our customers' needs. Starting with Relay Alarm Systems (annunciators), Ronan made the obvious technological progression by manufacturing the first solid-state integrated circuit type annunciator on the market, assuring virtually unlimited system life. In keeping with rapidly changing electronic component development, Ronan was first to introduce a stand-alone microprocessor controlled annunciator, enhancing reliability, mechanical packaging density, and ease of operation. Continuous research and development has kept Ronan's product line the most advanced in the industry.

Ronan Measurements Division, located in Florence, Kentucky, was formed to address a growing market need for difficult process measurements using nuclear technology in industrial plants worldwide. Ronan gauges are immune to many of the problems experienced with other technologies because they do not come into contact with the process (non-intrusive), and mount external to the vessel, mold, pipe or conveyor often with no modifications required.
