Sapcon Vital - Vibrating Fork Level Switch for Solids

Compact vibrating fork level switch for free-flowing solids, granules and powders. The working principle of vibrating fork level switch is based on vibrating tuning fork’s natural frequency and amplitude measurement. A specially shaped tuning fork is continuously vibrating at its natural frequency using piezo-electric elements and changes in amplitude in the presence of application media are measured. The pressure applied on diaphragm drives the vibrating fork`s tines apart from each other and return to their original position when the pressure is removed. As the material level increases and comes in contact with the vibrating fork tines, the amplitude of oscillation of vibrating fork level switch dampens or decreases as it covered with the solid application media. The change in amplitude is detected by the microprocessor leading to a switching decision. When the amplitude goes below a set threshold, vibrating fork type level switch trigger changes in output.

Capvel-FUEL measures fuel level using the principle of capacitance. The sense rod and the metallic wall of still tube of the sensor form the two plates of a capacitor. The application material (diesel) forms the dielectric between these plates. The amount of capacitance formed is proportional to the level of diesel between the plates. It utilizes a specially developed capacitance change gauging circuit to measure any change in the level of fuel. Translation of level from capacitance is done according to the calibrating point of the probe. It uses a fast microcontroller to evaluate the level of material in the tank in different formats such as level in milli-meters, percentage and volume of fuel in milli-litres. The sensor also contains built-in algorithms for temperature drift and turbulence compensation.

The probe is mounted from the top of the vessel and it comprises of a sense electrode which is electrically isolated from the metallic tank by means of a suitable insulator. The sense electrode and the vessel wall serve as the two electrodes of a capacitor with the service material acting as the dielectric. A change in the material level causes a change in the dielectric, which in turn causes the value of this tank capacitor to change. An accurate measurement of this change affords an indirect measure of the level of the material in the tank.

The capacitance formed by sensing probe and water is measured, and it is directly proportional to the level of water known as ‘Head’. By measuring heads at two points, namely ‘High Head’ and ‘Low Head’, their difference can be calculated. This difference is ‘Loss of Head’. LOH sensor measures the heads in millimeters and thus calibration might be required on site. The two sensors digitally send their level values of head heights in digital format over the same set of wires. A shielded cable should be used to assure flawless operation.
