An Area-Velocity Flow Meter continuously measures both Level and Velocity to calculate flow volume in an open channel or pipe. The ultrasonic sensor is installed at the bottom of a pipe or channel. Ultrasonic energy is continuously transmitted under water into the flow stream. The sound waves are reflected from tiny solid matter or air bubbles in the flow stream which changes the frequency of the transmitted frequency proportional to the liquid velocity. The transmitted frequency is compared to particle return frequency to calculate the velocity of the moving liquid. Thousands of velocity return signals are collected and averaged to produce representative average velocity. The AV sensor is designed to work with Smart Storms area velocity meters, either the USI or USM but can be used with other instruments.

SMART STORM’S direction electrodes are rugged solid-state sensors with built in driTEK Teflon double junction references that do not require filling solutions, membrane replacements or operator maintenance. These combination ISEs can be stored dry and are submersible and waterproof. The solid state sensor and maintenance free reference makes these electrodes ideal for both laboratory and field work. The Epoxy tubular body provides complete protection to the electrode which allows these sensors to be used in field applications by unskilled operators.

A Venturi flume is a critical-flow open flume with a constricted flow which causes a drop in the hydraulic grade line, creating a critical depth. Smart Storm manufacture BS3680 rectangular flumes in either stainless steel or Polypropylene to suit customer requirements. Flumes are available as complete structures with integral approach channel or as flume cheeks to retrofit into an existing channel. Available in sizes from 0.5L/s to 800L/s.

Smart Storm manufacture V-notch weir tanks that come complete with integral sensor bracket and steel reinforced bands. Two standard sizes are available:  0-10L/s & 0-40L/s – bespoke size tanks can be custom manufactured on request. All tanks come with a 90mm or 150mm stub inlet and outlet, however other sizes can be accommodated. Smart Storm weir tanks are fully compliant to BS3680 and ISO 1438 standards.

All industries require consent to discharge their wastewater to sewer by Water Companies. In the case of discharge to land, river or sea this consent is governed by the Environment Agency in England, Natural Resources Wales or SEPA, Scotland.

Smart Storm specialise in bioaugmentation treatment plants which are similar to SAFF plants but use targeted bacterial strain to enhance the efficacy of the plant.

DAF plants use chemicals, aeration and mechanical scrappers to remove dissolved and suspended solids and oils and grease from wastewater streams. They can be up to 90% efficient but are unsuitable for liquid only applications.
