DNA cloning underlies all of biomedical research, yet cloning procedures often fail because they involve a large number of variables and are hard to document with existing tools. Even when a procedure is successful, the verification may be done incorrectly. This situation impedes progress and diverts scientists from more creative activities. The founders of GSL Biotech realized that these problems could be solved with well crafted software. Our software keeps track of the relevant variables, and provides key information at each step of a cloning simulation, thereby streamlining the design and documentation of DNA cloning procedures. GSL Biotech has received an NIH SBIR Phase I and Phase II award, filed a patent application, and developed an alpha version of its first software product, SnapGene™.
