SOPREMA was one of the first roofing manufacturers to establish an Environmental Management Program, and the first modified bitumen manufacturer to be ISO 14001 certified for its environmental management practices. This applies to SOPREMA production facilities worldwide. The European research facilities are developing products made from renewable resources and recycled materials to reduce SOPREMA’s carbon footprint.
Long before sustainability became a focus of the construction industry, SOPREMA was promoting sustainable roofing. Its approach is simple – ReNew and ReUse. Make a roofing system last as long as possible to delay its removal to landfill for as long as possible and reduce the use of new resources and materials. SOPREMA’s Technical Department promotes that good design, selection of the right materials and proper installation adds years to a roof’s waterproofing performance. Its research and development philosophy of ReNew and ReUse extends to all new products introduced by SOPREMA. While SBS modified bitumen roofing membranes have an anticipated service life of 30 years, this can be doubled or even tripled with limited use of additional materials and resources.
SOPREMA is a leader in developing green roof technology to aid in improving the environment. The weight of SOPRANATURE green roof systems has been sufficiently reduced to allow garden roofs on most existing buildings. In protecting the environment, SOPREMA’s Coletanche geomembrane systems are used in geotechnical, environmental and hydraulic applications to retain liquid and solid contaminants (including nuclear waste), protect groundwater resources, control water runoff and pollutants, provide biogas protection, as well as store potable water.
