The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) services
Environmental & Industrial Biotechnology
A major player in the biotechnology boom, India is rapidly striding ahead with its discoveries and innovations touching every aspect of the lives of its citizens. At the leading edge of this transition is TERI"s Environmental and Industrial Biotechnology Division, which has proven itself to be a viable player in the biotechnology arena. In its relentless quest to harness India"s bio-potential, the Division conceptualizes and produces an array of ready-to-use and commercially viable products that are consumer-friendly, cost-effective, and environmentally sound. The Division"s highly specialized and experienced research teams attained new heights in studies related to biotechnology and bioresources. Their discoveries and refinements of existing technologies have been lauded at both the national and global levels.
Green Growth and Development
The mission of the Division is to identify, analyze, and prioritize policy options with regard to energy and environment by quantitative modelling of energy-economy-environment linkages. The Division uses GIS (geographical information system) services and remote sensing techniques in spatial data management, analysis and modelling as well as Internet applications for natural resource management. The Division addresses energy policy and environmental issues at the local, national, regional, and global levels.Water Resources
The Water Resources Division at TERI consists of a dedicated team of inter-disciplinary researchers working on cross cutting issues related to water. The multi-disciplinary nature of the division facilitates an integrated approach, enabling it to provide comprehensive and sustainable solution to scientific queries for efficient management of water resources both in present and in the future. The division through its diverse group of experts including hydrologist, economists, planners, geographers and engineers envisions providing services to various stakeholders including rural and urban communities, industry and Government bodies to ensure the social, environmental, and economic sustainability of this precious natural resource.Sustainable Habitats
The Sustainable Habitats division of TERI has been working on issues related to sustainable urban development, transportation systems, and habitats for over two decades. The Division"s activities range from carrying out energy-environment related analysis, giving inputs to policy and planning, improving urban service provision and governance, carrying out sustainability assessments, exploring climate change implications, and carrying out capacity building for various stakeholders, all in the context of transport and urban development. In the area of sustainable habitats, the division has been consistently delivering solutions to enable design and development of sustainable habitats at both macro and micro levels. The division is very actively working in states and cities to mainstream sustainable habitat/building design guidelines and regulations at the building level to help design greener buildings through integrated design approachSocial Transformation
The Action Programmes Division was created out of the realization that poverty and the environment are deeply intertwined. In order to mitigate environmental risks, it is imperative to address the issues of poverty-the main stimulator of environmental degradation. The Division takes into account the complexities that emerge when environmental issues are married to a region"s unique social and economic profile, and initiates comprehensive solutions for the poor that are sustainable and cost-effective, and enhance the quality of life. The focus of the Division is thus on delivering a combination of integrated-technology-based solutions as against isolated, sector-specific interventions.Sustainable Development Outreach
The Sustainable Development Outreach Division was established in the year 2004, with a goal to broaden the scope of disseminating knowledge on the issues concerning the environment and sustainable development. The prime objective of the division is to share TERI"s research work & experiences with the masses. SDO while generating awareness and sensitizing the public, is working toward developing new trends of living, with a larger goal of infusing a sense of responsibility through behavioral changes.
