Dec. 8-12, 2025 Bangkok

The Water and Development Congress & Exhibition 2025 will take place in Bangkok, Thailand from 8-12 December 2025. It builds on the resounding success of the 2023 edition in Kigali, Rwanda, which was a landmark event for water, sanitation, and climate resilience in low- and middle-income countries. Attracting nearly 2,700 participants from 85 countries, the 2023 Congress featured an engaging programme of 39 technical sessions, 40 workshops, and 5 forums, including the High-Level Summit on Sanitation and the Climate Smart Utilities recognition programme. It will take place at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok.

The IWA Water Safety Planning Specialist Group (SG) is excited to invite you to Narvik, Norway, for the “International Conference for Water Safety”, which follows the successful conference of 2016, Palawan, Philippines.

The 2022 IWA International conference for water safety (IWA – WS conference) will bring together leading international experts from academia, industry, government, policymakers/authorities and other organizations to actively exchange, share, and challenge state-of-the-art research on water safety (WS) that could contribute practical knowledge in the implementation of WS to the key stakeholders involved in providing safe drinking water.

Since the constitution of the IWA Water Safety Planning Specialist Group (SG), one of our main goals has been to ensure the continuation of this very good series of Water Safety Conferences, and we are therefore proud to be involved in the promotion and organization of this event.

Malaysia is an emerging economy that is striving to achieve developed status by 2020. Like many countries in the tropics, we are prone to flash floods affecting numerous parts of the country. The recently presented Malaysian Second Economic Stimulus Package promises a further allocation of funds for implementation of additional flood mitigation projects. However, having the funding is just the beginning – knowing and understanding which technologies are best to maximise effectiveness requires our practitioners to be well versed in all the latest developments. The state of having to constantly be on the alert and the experience of dealing with this potential problem has shaped Malaysia into a country that is fast gaining knowledge and skills in the management of flash floods. Hosting the 13th ICUD as such in Malaysia, would be an ideal move whereby participants can gain much insight from a location that deals with the problem not only fi­rst hand but also often enough.
