Thordon Bearings manufactures a seawater lubricated propeller shaft bearing system that is unlike traditional water lubricated rubber bearing systems. It uses elastomeric polymer bearings designed uniquely to offer desirable performance and operational benefits.  The low friction of the Thordon bearings and the early hydrodynamic film development creates an acoustically quieter bearing. 

Thordon SXL offers a lower coefficient of friction for reduced break-away torque and smoother operation at lower shaft RPM, increased resistance to third particle abrasive wear and improved wear life compared to XL.

Our traditional standard propeller shaft bearing grade, Thordon XL is a general purpose bearing offering superior performance compared to other bearings commonly used in propeller shaft applications. XL provides good balance between long wear life, low coefficient of friction, reasonable abrasion resistance and cost effectiveness.

The versatility of Thordon technology provides Navies and Coast Guards around the world with pollution-free, low maintenance and long lasting solutions for deck machinery and other unique bearing applications using ThorPlas-Blue, HPSXL TRAXL and other Thordon grades.

Homogenous Thordon HPSXL incorporates friction and wear reducing additives throughout its entire molecular structure ensuring consistent performance in limited motion applications and high resistance to shock loading and vibration.  It is for high pressure applications up to 55 MPa (8000 psi) dynamic or 70 MPa (10,000 psi) static peak. Its friction coefficient is typically 0.06-0.12 dynamic.

Preferred choice for dry start-up capability. Lower dry coefficient of friction typically 0.10 - 0.20. Working pressure to 10 MPa (1450 psi). Wet or dry operation. High resistance to abrasion, shock loading and vibration.
