About Us
History
Tricorona, under the name Wermlands Mining, was founded in 1988, then with a focus on exploration of base metals and minerals. 1989 the company was listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange O-list.
In 2003, the company's business focus changed and a number of companies were acquired with businesses in raw materials recycling and electricity brokerage. During this time the company changed its name to Tricorona.
In 2004 Tricorona began to do business in the carbon market by acting as a broker of carbon credits (CERs). As the trading of UN-certified Emission Reductions increased, the company began in 2005 investing in projects that generated carbon credits. During the latter part of 2006 Tricorona decided to focus on investing in and trading with carbon credits and the activities of raw materials recycling was sold.
In the following years, the company's main focus was to sign contracts with project owners to develop CDM-projects and buy the CERs they generate. Tricorona also expanded its voluntary offsetting business so as to reach non-compliance buyers in 2007. The company's venture was successful and Tricorona established itself quickly as one of the leading investors and developers of carbon reduction projects in the world, a position the company has kept through the years.
Tricorona was listed on the NASDAQ OMX Stockholm's Nordic Small Cap list until July 2010 when Barclays PLC acquired a majority stake in the company.
Tricorona is today a privately-held company that is focused on emissions trading, investing in projects and serving corporate demand for climate risk management and strategy development as well as voluntary carbon offsetting.
