VOC Technologies
VOC Technologies is available for contract analysis for monitoring of ozone precursors, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi-volatile organics, oxygenated organics (OVOCs), microbial organic compounds (BOVs), pesticides, herbicides, etc. We can monitor outdoor air pollution, downwind exposure to industrial or agricultural emissions, indoor air quality, chemical weapon agents, and industrial process emissions. Our instrumentation is automated for sampling and analysis, with all post-processing of data done by skilled analytical chemists with years of monitoring experience. We offer complete on-site analysis tailored to your specific needs.

History

VOC Technologies (VOCTEC) has grown out of research in the Chemistry Department at Portland State University. Bob O'Brien and his students began work on an automated method for measuring atmospheric Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in 1998 with the first patent application filed in 1999. VOCs can enter the atmosphere via natural processes such as emissions from vegetation, but are more commonly associated with vehicular traffic, solvents and other industrial pollution.
VOCTEC has developed and is commercializing Pneumatic Focusing Gas Chromatography (PFGC) in which an air sample of 1-1000 cc is compressed to 600 psi and injected directly on column in a specially designed gas chromatograph (GC). This GC is entirely constructed within a fully functional personal computer (the GC-in-a-PC). PFGC operates over the internet, offers FID-VOC sensitivity of 50 ppt and has received several US and foreign patents with others pending.
Portland State University owns the PFGC patents and has granted VOCTEC an exclusive worldwide license. With the help of SBIR grants from several federal agencies, we have spent the last 7 years perfecting and commercializing PFGC and now have several instrument lines for general and specific applications.
We offer instrument sales & leasing or contract analysis and consulting in a variety of applications, including indoor and outdoor air quality monitoring.
