Paper summarizes the current state of the demand-supply chain synchronization between a manufacturer and a subcontractor in the Finnish machinery industry. Furthermore, the paper aims to present some new possible ways to synchronize processes, and the main differences in the way the manufacturer and the subcontractor experience the state of the synchronization.
Performance monitoring tools are becoming necessity for facility management as the profession is turning increasingly into the provider of performance to meet the user requirements. The paper is aimed at presenting the needs to monitor building performance and a description of tools for the purpose. The need arises mainly from the necessity to observe compliance, and the need to provide consistent performance to the clients of the spaces. The paper demonstrates the feasibility to deliver the nec
The most critical factors affecting runnability of paper machines are the tension and relaxation properties of wet paper. In this study, the effect of electrolytes, pH and surface tension on dry and wet web properties was investigated. Addition of a non-ionic surfactant at pH 6.5 and conductivity level of 1 mS/cm, achieved by addition of CaCl2, decreased surface tension and increased dry content. Density, air permeability and tensile strength increased for dry sheets. Tensile strength and residu
This paper deals with the opportunities building information modelling (BIM) offers in supporting occupational safety in construction projects. The main focus is in BIM- based site layout planning and visualization. The paper demonstrates BIM-based site layout planning and the usability of the model. The main findings concerning the modelling tools available and the requirements for BIM-based site planning are also described. Additionally, the potential of 4D-simulation in safety planning is pre
Industrial maintenance operations include a variety of risks, which should be identified and managed systematically. This thesis bases on a set of studies, which explored the safety risks in maintenance operations together with types and causes of maintenance accidents. In addition, studies were carried out to explore identification and modelling of the accident risks. As a result, the thesis gives proposals for identification, modelling and management of the accident risks in companies. The foc
Structural health monitoring of aircraft is a necessary topic especially with aging fleets. In general, it means tracking the structural integrity and keeping the risk of missing the detection of hazardous cracks low. Traditionally the fatigue analyses from the collected data have been carried out in a flight-by-flight basis. However, simultaneous good-quality recordings of the most relevant flight parameters with the calculated fatigue damage synchronized with the recordings enable more thoroug
