Waste Paper Trade C.V.
Since 1994, WPT has been the partner in waste paper and plastics for companies in the public and private sector. A permanent growth process means that more than 1 million tonnes of waste paper is supplied to the raw-materials markets each year. Our competencies, professionalism and service provision on site mean that our clients can always rely on optimum trading and marketing. Around 30 million tonnes of waste paper is traded on the international markets each year. WPT`s position in these markets and that of our clients is secured with our worldwide network. That means we can guarantee that our raw materials are acquired and marketed in the best possible way in this constantly changing market.
Paper continues to have an important role to play in our digital world. We need to use paper every day both in the office as well as at home. Packaging, books, newspapers and advertising brochures are just a few examples. Ecological and economic factors are the underlying reasons for the increasing deployment of waste paper as a secondary raw material.
In the mid-twentieth century, numerous cardboard factories set up business in the north of the Netherlands, in the province of Groningen. Used paper of varying quality has now become the single most important raw material for this industry. Consequently, the foundation of a company concerned with sorting and preparing waste paper for use in the cardboard industry was only to be expected. Therefore, in 1970, the Oldenburger family started up the firm Virol: a service-focused facility for sorting and processing items including waste paper.
In 1994, increasing environmental awareness and a steadily increasing demand for waste paper led to the next phase. Virol and the German recycling company Toensmeier set up a limited partnership called the Waste Paper Trade C.V. (WPT), the head office for which is located in Winschoten. To this day, the business continues to be run by the Oldenburger family.
This new company has become an active player in the global market for the procurement and sale of waste paper and, in recent years, has grown to become one of the most important in its field. Safeguarding this success is our robustly developed quality management, perfectly organized logistics and good communications with our business contacts wherever they may be in the world.
Nowadays, WPT is an international trading company with branches in the Netherlands, Germany and Poland, as well as representatives in Scandinavia, southern Europe and Asia. Each month, we are responsible for many thousands of freights of waste paper, successfully reaching the consumer from the supplier thanks to our logistics system.
