The portable flux-meter West Systems is an instrument for the evaluation of gas exchange at interface between soli and atmosphere or between the atmosphere and liquid surfaces (lakes, swamps, etc.)

The station is able to measure: Carbon dioxide flow in soils by utilizing the accumulation chamber. (optional) Hydrogen sulfide flow in soils by utilizing the accumulation chamber. Air temperature. Soil temperature. Wind velocity and direction. Air relative humidity. Amount of water in soils. Barometric pressure. Gas flow along the sampling line. Amount of precipitation (rainwater). The station is completely automated, supplied by solar panels and a buffer battery. The station carries out the measurement with a configurable frequency (usually one per hour).

West Systems designs and develops integrated systems for the monitoring of environmental radioactivity. Thanks to its long experience in the field, West Systems is able to develop specific instruments for the monitoring of radionuclide pollution, systems for the measurement of alpha, beta and gamma radioactivity, for the evaluation of radon emissions and for the chemical and nuclear characterization of airborne particulate matter.

Thanks to anextensive accumulated experience in the field, West Systems designs fulli ntegrated systems for geochemical monitoring. Such stations are designed to meet specific requirements and are able to monitor environmental parameters related to air quality, chemical and physical parameters of groundwater, soil gas compositions. In collaboration with Saipem and the Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources of CNR , West Systems designed and implemented solutions for the monitoring of gaseousemissions in both natural gas storage sites and in areas designated to geological sequestration of carbon dioxide (CCS).

The wide range of problems and particular cases faced in 25 years of activity, along with a continuous search for new technological solutions andwith the design of new products, allows West Systems to propose advanced solutions in the field of industrial test benches.

Every controlled MSW landfill is a potential source for the contamination of air, soil and water. The main carriers of such contaminations are leachate and biogas, produced by the interaction with seepage water and by the processes of waste degradation. In case of ineffective containing systems, leachate can get in contact with natural systems and thereby be dispersed into existing aquifers.
