Back in the 1970s, Don Fernando Castañeda, a chemist by profession and a visionary par excellence, detected a need for improvement in the sorting of coffee beans. Thinking of creating a technological means of sorting beans that would allow the producer and the exporter to improve the quality of their product, he set about designing an electronic optical color analyzer that could sort coffee beans with great precision and efficiency, with a rate of 300 grains per second.
