Welcome
UKAS Accredited Flow Calibration and Testing Laboratory
The Young Calibration laboratory provides UKAS accredited calibration (Laboratory 0604) services and thermal fluid and component testing services to a wide scope of industries whilst maintaining a reputation for quality, cost effectiveness, impartiality and reliability. Our specialist UKAS accreditation offerings for aviation, automotive, medical, environmental and pharmaceutical sectors provide worldwide acceptance for many of the ASTM, EPA, ISO, BSI, DIN and SAE standardized test protocols.
As our name implies, we are a young, vibrant and professional firm employing cutting edge technology for the benefit of our clients.
At the same time we have unrivaled knowledge and experience in our fields of expertise, covering Calorimetric Heat Exchanger Testing, UKAS Air Flow Calibration, UKAS Fluid Flow Calibration, UKAS Air Velocity Calibration, Component Cleanliness, Component Durability and Thermal Fluid system testing. With many years of solid experience between the engineering staff, clients can be assured of a quality and professional service.
Young Calibration specialises in the areas of flow meter calibration, air velocity measurement and thermal systems, and provides their expertise to an abundance of industry specific clients. Three departments cover the range of calibration services on offer, namely the Calibration Laboratory, the Thermal Fluids Test Laboratory and the Component Cleanliness Laboratory.
The Calibration Laboratory houses twelve specialist flow rigs, for gas flow, air flow, water flow, oil flow, fuel flow and is complimented with calibration and testing facilities for air velocity, pressure, temperature, humidity, electrical, mass, torque and acceleration. Two ISO Class 6 cleanrooms provide critical areas for oil free, oxygen pressure calibration services and microscopic particle analysis tasks.
The Thermal Fluids Test Laboratory houses two calorimetric heat exchanger wind tunnels and component test rigs for burst, ageing, acid resistance, thermal cycling, thermal shock, pulsation, pressure cycling, altitude, corrosion, erosion, SWAAT, vibration, bump, leak, flow vs dP, hot soak and cold soak.
The Component Cleanliness Laboratory occupies an ISO Class 6 Clean room, undertaking a sweep of tests to ISO 16232 standard, with washing, flushing, flow benches, extraction and analysis. Particle analysis can be conducted using a range of analysis techniques and instrumentation from online optical particle analysis, microscopic analysis, ELSP (Evaporative Light Scattering Detection) for solvents and UV Spectrometry.
All our test rig instrumentation is calibrated to recognised standards in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025, meaning all equipment is traceable to National Standards. The Calibration laboratory also holds UKAS accreditation for a variety of parameters (Laboratory 0604) and has worldwide recognition via the ILAC-MRA mutual cooperation agreement.
About Us
The Young Calibration laboratories were incorporated in 1996 by the present owners and now operate across two laboratory locations and employ over twenty personnel. Both test and calibration facilities are located in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex and provide UKAS accredited (Lab 0604) ISO/IEC 17025 calibration services and thermal fluid component testing to customers throughout the globe. The company has achieved and maintains a reputation for quality, cost effectiveness and flexibility. As our name implies, we are a young, vibrant and professional company employing leading edge technologies throughout the laboratory. We have an unrivaled knowledge and experience within the laboratories field for gas flow calibration, fluid flow calibration air velocity calibration, thermal testing, component cleanliness and particle analysis.
The thermal fluids testing laboratory provides customers with a diverse range of facilities for the test, development and durability of fluid system and electro-mechanical components. The laboratory specialises in the thermal characterisation of air and fluid heat exchangers with three calorimetric test rigs and seven durability test rigs for thermal cycling, pressure cycling, vibration and corrosion.
The cleaning laboratory specialises in automotive and aerospace cleaning and analysis to the ISO 16232 standard. The facility is housed in an ISO Class 6 cleanroom and offers a broad spectrum of cleaning technologies with online optical liquid analysis, microscopic particle analysis and spectroscopy.
UKAS ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation
The company holds ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, Calibration Laboratory Number 0604, for the calibration of air flow, water flow, oil flow, air velocity, pressure and electrical calibration parameters, giving customers the confidence that the laboratory operates to defined standards and procedures in a competent, impartial and performance capable manner. UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) is the only accreditation body recognised by the UK government to assess Calibration Laboratories against internationally recognised standards. The company has held UKAS accreditation since 2002 and continues to expand on its' accreditation schedule to meet the ever changing requirements of market conditions and legislation changes. Mutual cooperation with ILAC-MRA ensures worldwide recognition for its' UKAS accredited calibration services.
What are the Benefits of UKAS Accreditation?
UKAS accreditation is a means of assessing the technical competence, integrity and performance of laboratories offering calibration or testing services. UKAS calibration accreditation has many potential benefits for the quality, impartiality and technical deliverance of the organisations calibration services throughout the whole measurement chain. It provides independent regular assessment for the technical competence of its appointed UKAS Calibration Schedule. For suppliers selecting a UKAS accredited calibration organisation it reduces risk management, ensures competent reliable measurements are carried out in compliance with best practices, provides worldwide acceptance to international standards to facilitate export access and helps demonstrate due diligence in the event of legal action.

ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation
Young Calibration holds UKAS accreditation for ISO/IEC 17025, Laboratory accreditation number 0604. In addition to complying with the requirements of the standard, the company is independently assessed by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS, formerly NAMAS). Successful assessment against the standard for specified calibration parameters and ranges, leads to an accredited calibration schedule recognised throughout the world by way of Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs)
UKAS calibration accreditation gives confidence and trust to its customers that the laboratory has demonstrated its' success in meeting the requirements of the international accreditation standard. It provides evidence that the laboratory can demonstrate competence, impartiality and performance capability to their stated calibration schedule.
To ensure you minimise your risk of non compliance of technical standards or legal legislation, always look for the UKAS accreditation symbol. A UKAS accredited calibration certificate will always show the UKAS logo and the accredited laboratory number directly below the logo. Where there is a mutual recognition agreement in place, the it will show both the UKAS and ILAC logos side by side, as shown above.
Gaining UKAS calibration accreditation is a demanding task and laboratories shown be complimented on their achievements, gaining accreditation is not a one off achievement but is an going process. It provides you with a formal tool to show customers, businesses and regulatory organisations the high degree of assurance of the calibration services you offer. UKAS calibration accreditation is the formal recognition that the laboratory is competent to perform the services in its’ calibration schedule in a reliable, credible and accurate manner. To gain UKAS calibration accreditation, the laboratory must apply to the United Kingdom Accreditation Service and outline their specific areas for calibration accreditation. UKAS will then start the process for formal accreditation by appointing an assessment team that will be impartial, objective, transparent, be highly professional, competent assessors and technical experts in the relevant fields, reliable, ethical and in our years of experience, we have also found them to be very helpful. UKAS Calibration accreditation delivers confidence in certificates and conformity statements and underpins the quality of results by ensuring their traceability, comparability, validity and commutability across the world.
'Too many of Britain's companies run the risk of undermining their long-term success by purchasing independent evaluations that are not UKAS accredited.' Ref :UKAS - The Benefits of Accreditation.
