www.bta-international.de Company Profile BTA International GmbH is the leading specialist for the wet mechanical pre-treatment of different kinds of waste and the subsequent anaerobic digestion of their organic fraction. The BTA® Process is a combination of the BTA Hydromechanical Pre-treatment with an anaerobic digestion step for the utilization of the separated organics and therefore the largest fraction of the waste stream from municipal, commercial and agricultural sources The efficient removal of impurities is the key for the successful digestion of biowaste, food waste, commercial waste and the organic fraction from municipal solid waste. BTA Hydromechanical Pre-treatment is defined by its substrate flexibility and its high efficiency in the removal of impurities out of the organic suspension. This allows for high operation reliability, minimizes the disposal costs of the rejects, maximizes the biogas yield and ensures the quality of the digestate. BTA International GmbH offers engineering services based on almost 30 years of experience, proven and patented pre-treatment systems as well as turnkey plants based on the BTA® Process. Our company was founded in 1984 as BTA Biotechnische Abfallverwertung GmbH & Co. KG. In the middle of the 80’s the BTA® Process was developed and then tested and optimized over ten years in the pilot plant in Garching near Munich. With this pilot plant, unique in its kind in this industrial sector, it was possible to demonstrate the suitability of the BTA® Process for the treatment of above mentioned kinds of waste. Already in 1991 the first industrial anaerobic digestion plant for biowaste based on the BTA® Process was built. Since then more than 40 plants world-wide have been designed according to the overall BTA® Process or with key components from the wet mechanical pre-treatment with a total capacity of approx. 1,2 million metric tons per year (see reference list). More than 110 million Nm³ biogas are annually produced in BTA plants, which corresponds to the energy equivalent of approx. 70 million Nm³ natural gas. Exclusive licenses have been granted to the following strategic partners to allow a strong international presence: Biotec Sistemi S.r.l. for Italy, Canada Composting Inc. (CCI) for North America and Enpure Ltd. for Great Britain and Ireland. Furthermore we co-operate world-wide as technological partner with strong local or global enterprises. With the intention to offer the customer technologies for the anaerobic digestion of all kinds of substrates (agricultural residues, urban as well as organic industrial waste), the companies Agraferm Technologies AG and BTA Biotechnische Abfallverwertung GmbH & Co. KG. decided to strategically join forces in 2007 and bundle their respective long-year experiences. By that time BTA International GmbH was founded. The technology was systematically and successfully further developed and new patents have been submitted and granted. These developments, together with 15 projects executed since then in Europe and North America, underline the leading position of BTA International GmbH in the technology for the pre-treatment and anaerobic digestion of organic wastes.
