Ice Making Machinery Case Study Customer: Southern Fishermen Association, Grenada Category: Commercial Application: Artic Temp Ice Maker: Model 3000SC Southern Fishermen operate a number of ice making machines, one of which is a 15,000 lb / day Arctic Temp unit. Southern Fishermen’s engineer and Managing Director contacted Fluid Dynamics NA, LLC as they were having ongoing problems with the machines nozzles and evaporator tubes scaling up. Southern Fishermen had previously installed a “wrap around” scale prevention device that had proven ineffective. The Challenge: A 1” Scaletron unit was specified for the unit after the system pump that sprays and circulates water. The Managing Director of Southern Fishermen admits he is a difficult engineer to please. His feedback a couple of months after the installation is that he is pleased with the results. His evaporator tubes are free of scale and no longer require periodic cleaning. The requirement to clean nozzles has reduced dramatically. James has witnessed an ongoing reduction in nozzle scale and predicts they will remain scale free when all the scale in the system has been removed by the treated water.
