CLEAN-SWEEP Product Brochure

CLEAN-SWEEP®Technical Product SpecificationsThe CLEAN-SWEEP Rupture Disc Assembly providesoverpressure relief protection for viscous media processes, particularly where product build-up in a piping system maycause excessive overpressure conditions. For many years, pipe tees were used in process lineswith the rupture disc assembly installed off the leg of thetee. However, viscous product build-up could affect theproper operation and accuracy of the rupture disc.Continental Disc Corporation developed theCLEAN-SWEEP Assembly to eliminate the dead space ofa pipe tee assembly, as well as the pressure, temperature, and material availability limitations caused by older, diaphragm valve body-based designs. The NEW CLEAN-SWEEP Rupture Disc Assembly offerssignificant design improvements over previous designs(see diagram at right). The body casting of the CLEAN-SWEEP Assembly is specifically designed for a rupturedisc. The CLEAN-SWEEP Rupture Disc Assembly permits therupture disc to be installed directly on the body casting, adjacent to the process flow. Compared to other designs, itrequires fewer joints to be sealed and greatly reduces thepossibility of product build-up (dead space) under therupture disc.Designed for operating pressures up to 1440 psig(99,3 barg), the CLEAN-SWEEP Assembly is custommachined to bolting classes of ANSI, DIN, JIS or asspecified by the customer. Alignment pins in the assemblyinlet provide correct rupture disc orientation duringinstallation. Once installed, the 3-Dimensional FlowDirection Tag, which is permanently attached to the rupturedisc, is a visual reference that the rupture disc willdischarge in the intended flow direction. The CLEAN-SWEEP Assembly body is available instandard materials of 316 Stainless Steel, Monel®*, orHastelloy C®*. The rupture disc holder outlet and outletcompanion flange are available in materials of CarbonSteel, Monel, Inconel®*, Nickel, 316 Stainless Steel, orHastelloy C.A permanently attached nameplate with flow directionindication is supplied on the CLEAN-SWEEP assembly.Whenever specific identification tagging is required, astainless steel customer identification tag is permanentlyattached at no extra charge. There are two CLEAN-SWEEP rupture disc assembliesto choose from:(CU) CLEAN-SWEEP(CR) CLEAN-SWEEPBoth assemblies are described on page 3.www.contdisc.comStandard rupture disc assemblyinstalled in a “T” off the flowline. Dead space permits highlyviscous product to collect andbuild up, preventing the rupturedisc from sensing overpressure.Weldneck or threadedconnection atdischarge sideANSI, DIN, JIS boltingclasses availableDesigned for operating pressuresto 1440 psig (99,3 barg)Leak-tight sealingRupture disc next to flow line*Inconel and Monel are registered trademarks of the Inco family of companies.Hastelloy is a registered trademark of Haynes International.2-3307-7Rupture Disc CompatibilityThe CLEAN-SWEEP assembly is designed to house eithera Composite (CF) or MICRO X® (CF) rupture disc, both ofwhich have a flat seat configuration.Besides a full, instantaneous opening, the Composite andMICRO X rupture discs provide many outstanding features:• Excellent corrosion resistance.• Wide range of burst ratings.• Smooth surface against the process media.• Excellent for use in gaseous or liquid service.• 80% operating-to-burst-pressure ratio.• Non-fragmenting design (applicable to allMICRO X Rupture Discs, and to Composite RuptureDiscs supplied with a non-metallic seal).SizesThe MICRO X and Composite flat seat rupture discsmanufactured for use with the CLEAN-SWEEP assemblyare available in nominal sizes ranging from 1" to 6"(25-150mm). Refer to the MICRO X or Composite RuptureDisc Technical Product Specifications documents (TDB-04 orTDB-02) or CDC Bulletin No. 2-2203-2 for the minimum andmaximum burst pressures.Liners / CoatingsContinental Disc Corporation offers both protective linersand coatings to provide additional protection from the effectcorrosives or product build up might have on theperformance of the rupture disc. Typically, liners aremade of TEFLON®*. TEFLON coating is also used.Protective RingsProtective rings may be used with rupture discs made of thinmaterials or in instances where delicate liners or seals areused. These rings protect the rupture disc from foreignmaterial in the sealing area where holders may be pitted orcorroded from extended use.GasketsGaskets may be used to provide additional sealing and toprevent leakage through the seating area of a scratched orpitted holder. They are located on the process side of therupture disc and are usually manufactured of TEFLON.Other materials are available upon request.Vacuum SupportDue to the thinness of some rupture disc materials, it isnecessary to support a rupture disc when a system vacuumoccurs. Continental Disc Corporation provides vacuumsupports for Composite and MICRO X rupture discs that willwithstand full vacuum. For back pressure conditions higherthan 14.7 psig (1 barg), consult the factory.Tagging / CertificationEvery lot of rupture discs manufactured by Continental DiscCorporation is furnished with a BURST CERTIFICATE andpermanently attached FLOW DIRECTION TAG stating themanufacturing number, burst rating, temperature rating andany required customer identification information.MICRO X (CF) Rupture DiscComposite (CF) Rupture DiscCode ComplianceC.D.C. will manufacture, temperature test and markrupture discs in compliance with the requested code.Product may be supplied to ASME Section VIII, DIN, BSI,JIS, ISO, EN or other codes as required.Continental Disc Corporation has been accredited and isauthorized by the ASME Code to utilize the Code SymbolStamp for product built in accordance with the requirementsof the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII,Division 1.B.D.I.® (Burst Disc Indicator) Alarm SystemWhere immediate notification of pressure relief is required,Continental’s B.D.I. (Burst Disc Indicator) Alarm Systemshould be used. Designed for use with Continental’s rupturediscs, the B.D.I. Alarm System automatically notifies theoperator, via audio and/or visual warnings, that a rupturedisc has burst. The B.D.I. Alarm Monitor is available withintrinsically safe signal output and is computer compatible.Compatible with either the MICRO X or Composite flat seatrupture discs, the Universal B.D.I. is an alarm strip attachedto a TEFLON membrane and assembled between non-asbestos gaskets.* TEFLON is a registered trademark of E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company used under license.2Component Parts:1.
