Offices INDUSTRIE COMETTO SPA ________________________________________________________Industrie COMETTO Company Profile 3 The origins of COMETTO date back to 1954, when the first workshop for the production of vehicles, bridge-cranes and in-stallations opened in Cuneo with the name of Officine Cometto, and was transformed in 1970 into Cometto S.p.A. In 1962 the plant moved to its present location due to the growth in the trailer sector. The production facilities were greatly expanded to meet in-creased demand over the years. The production has diversified into various types of vehicles, ranging from road transport to abnormal transport to special transport. Among the great achievements of COMETTO worth a special mention the “Orbiter Transporter” built for NASA in 1983, and the first and the biggest self-propelled modular system ever built (3.000 t.) manufactured for Nippon Express in 1981. In 1987 COMETTO joined the “Gruppo Bottero S.p.A.”. With such a background COMETTO could expect only success: for instance the en-tire European space project “Ariane 5” of 1990 was moved by COMETTO vehicles. In addition to this important achievement (logical conse-quence of the previous N.A.S.A. and LOCKEED con-tracts) many other significant results in different industrial fields have followed. In the field of shipyards the biggest self-propelled vehicle ever built (for the transport of fabrications up to 1.000 t.) was designed by COMETTO for Hyundai Heavy Indus-tries, South Korea. In the field of heavy load displacement COMETTO has designed systems of modular vehicles for indivisible ele-ments. The present trend, especially in the petrochemical and shipyard sectors, is to produce heavier and heavier com-plete components to be transported almost finished into the final assembly site. In the field of steelwork COMETTO has designed self propelled vehicles for the transport of iron metallurgy pro-ducts (hot lingots, coils, mouled metal elc). The main fea-tures of this series is the high reliability for continuous work even in case of ex-treme environ-mental condi-tions In 1992 Industrie Cometto S.p.A. participated in the consti-tution of CARICO S.p.A., manufacturer of heavy fabrica-tions. This Company supplies chassis to COMETTO, leaving COMETTO to focus on the more specialised processes of assembly, finishing and testing. Today Industrie Cometto S.p.A. is a leading company specialising in the study, design, production and sales of modular trailers, semitrailers f and self-propelled vehicles for heavy and special transport. A BIT OF HISTORY________________________________________________________ A BIT OF HISTORY COMETTO is proud to produce its own vehicles with a completely internal cycle, from metalwork to final test. Quality controls are used at every stage of the production cycle to ensure a reliable, top quality product. Our vehicle starts from metalwork ... ...is sandblasted … and treated with primer… … follow to assembly line... In Cometto there are 5 production bays, each specialised in the production of a specific typology of vehicle, but flexible enough to allow, according to production needs, the assem-bly of other models of vehicles ...and finally to the final test All the vehicles produced at the end of the assembly are subject to a functional test according to internal quality procedure, and possible specific procedures of the customer. All prototypes or unique models are subject to a test under load At the end of the final test, each vehicle returns to the painting work-shop for the following operations: Washing ; Packing of the parts that don’t have to be painted (tyres, hoses, cyl-inders rod, etc) and chassis preparation (puttying, etc.). Final painting, consisting in another film of epoxy primer followed by two coats of polyurethane enamel; Finishing, which means attachment of labels, assembly of lights, cleaning, etc. In accordance with ISO 9001:2008 regulations, the quality manage-ment system improves the effectiveness of all business processes. Industrie Cometto S.p.A. is certified ISO 9001 since 1st June 1998 THE PRODUCTION _________________________________________________________ THE QUALITY THE QUALITY___________________________ THE PRODUCTION The development of a new vehicle demands human and tech-nical resources to obtain a project that can be quickly realised. The R&D department is one of the biggest and certainly one of the most advanced in the field; it is composed of 25 engi-neers and designer engineers specialised in various branch-es: mechanics, hydraulics, electrics, manuals. It uses a computerised drawing system, 15 stations of 3D solid pattern for all projects, while the other stations use FEM analysis tools and CAD programs with specific applications for the relevant drawing typology: electric, electronic, hydrau-lic. The R&D seeks out the latest developments in technology to deliver vehicles capable of matching the latest requirements for heavy and abnormal transport, in compliance with Euro-pean and local rules. New design methods: programmes have been developed to assist the customers with operational information such as the steering simulation, strength simulation of suspension arms (sample of diagrams below). Each vehicle is delivered with the following manuals: ? Use and maintenance ? Spare parts ? Electric, hydraulic and pneumatic systems COMETTO has progressively specialised focusing on the production of multi-axle vehicles equipped with pneumatic or hydraulic suspension, steering axles and chassis suitable for special transport, very often telescopic. The production range includes: EXTENDABLE SEMI-LOW LOADERS AND LOW-BED SEMI-TRAILERS Series 4 Low loader vehicles for the transport of tooling machines and industrial components, mainly for transport companies. These vehicles are equipped with hydraulic or pneumatic suspension, from 4 to 10 steering axles (forced hydraulic steering on all axles). The main configurations available are: fixed, telescopic (single, double or triple extension). The Series 4 can be equipped with hydraulically operated rear loading ramps. Series ZS Low bed vehicles for the transport of plant equipment and tooling machines. These vehicles are equipped with hydraulic or pneumatic suspension, from 2 to 4 steering axles. The main configurations available are: fixed or telescopic . The Series ZS is equipped with hydraulic detachable goose-neck. THE R&D DEPARTMENT THE PRODUCTS ________________________________________________________Industrie COMETTO Company Profile 5 THE R&D DEPARTMENT________________ ________________________THE PRODUCTS FLAT BED SEMI-TRAILERS XA Series Flat bed semitrailers, born for the transport long indivisible self-supporting loads like precast and steel structures, today are the only solution for the transport of longer and longer windmill blades. Based on required loading capacity the customer can choose between 3, 4 and 5 axles semitrailers with hydrau-lic or pneumatic suspensions. Flat bed semi-trailers can be supplied with double or triple extendible platform. Different models are available from the classical 29m, 36m, 45m up to new 50m and 53 m models. All the axles are hydro-mechanically forced steered from the tractor, (mandatory to drive so long semitrailers). Finally a fixed version with 5 axles and hydraulic suspen-sion is the ideal solution for the transport of crane ballast and heavy loads. HIGH-SPEED MODULAR TRAILERS Series 0ED Modular vehicles 2550 or 2750 mm wide, axle line made of two pendulum axles, 4 wheels per axle line, for high-speed transpor-tation (up to 80 km/h) of medium and heavy loads. Trailer or semitrailer configurations composed of standard basic elements from 2 to 7 axles. Possibility of back to back coupling according to specifics need. Wide range of platforms, vessel or spine decks, adaptors and accessories. THE PRODUCTS___________________________________________________________________ THE PRODUCTS LOW MODULAR TRAILERS Series 2 Very low modular vehicles with half axle, 4 wheels per axle line, for dimensionally elevated loads. Trailers or semitrailer configurations composed of standard basic elements from 2 to 5 axles. Possible interposition of fixed or telescopic decks whole width, spine or side beams. HEAVY MODULAR TRAILERS Series 1MS Modular vehicles with hydraulic steering, pendular axles; payload per axle up to 36,6 t; 8 wheels per axle line for exceptional loads up to several thousand tons ( components of power stations, petrolchemical installations, tanks etc) Towed or self-propelled configuration composable with modules from 2 to 8 axles. Possible interposition of decks whole width or narrow. Combining Power Pack and 1MS driven axles the vehicle can become a self-propelled MSPM. ________________________________________________________Industrie COMETTO Company Profile 7 THE PRODUCTS_____________________________________________________________ THE PRODUCTS X84DAH SELF-PROPELLED VEHICLES MSPE - Self-propelled electronic modules These vehicles are manoeuvrable in reduced areas and particu-larly suitable for the displacement of big modules for chemical industries, offshore platforms, etc. Electronic steering; electronic control system; 6 or 4 axle line modules; 2430 or 3000 width; radio remote control of any number of modules; integrates hydrostatic drive motors in the wheels; 3 type of Power Packs, 3 different interoperable families: 40 T, EVO 50T and EVO2 60T. SYT— Shipyard transporters Lifting platforms from 100 to over 1000 tons, for the displacement of large ship sections inside shipyards. Two types of suspensions: 32 or 38tons. Characteristics of this series are the electronic steering allowing any type of movement and the synchronisation among separated vehicles, operated by a remote control unit. Cometto has always produced several tailor made models, stud-ied in function of the customer needs.
