CVOC Contamination from Former Metallurgy Site- Brochure
CVOC contamination from former metallurgy siteSite description: During the past decades several activities were located on this site. A small metallurgy company in the 50s-70s is thought to have used perchloroethene as a degreasing agent causing a chlorinated solvent contamination. Local geology consist of sand/loam up to presumably 15-20 m-bgl, below a (sealing) clay layer is expectedBenefits: 19 EnISSA-MIPs were conducted to confirm geology (based on EC) and to visualize vertical and horizontal spreading of the contamination (PER/TRI/cis-DCE and VC). The presence of a clay layer at depths ranging from 16 to 19 m-bgl was shown. Based on the results of the EnISSA-MIP probings, 4 monitoring wells were installed to validate the results. High values for perchloroethene (40.000 µg/L) were encountered on the site at 2.5-3 m-bgl and confirmed with a monitoring well (20.000 µg/L, screen 2-3m-bgl). On the neighboring lots, breakdown products of the contamination (trichloroethene, cis-1,2-dichloroethene and vinylchloride) are observed at greater depths and up to 300m distance downstream.Location: WaregemContamination: PCE, TCE, cis,1-2DCE and VCAim EnISSA: Horizontal and vertical delineation of perchloroethene and breakdown products in groundwater. All rights reserved EnISSA (MAVA) • Gorislaan 49, 1820 Steenokkerzeel - Belgium • Tel: +32 (0)2 759 59 30 • Fax: +32 (02) 759 55 40 • Email: info@enissa.comAll rights reserved EnISSA (MAVA) • Gorislaan 49, 1820 Steenokkerzeel - Belgium • Tel: +32 (0)2 759 59 30 • Fax: +32 (02) 759 55 40 • Email: info@enissa.comAll rights reserved EnISSA (MAVA) • Gorislaan 49, 1820 Steenokkerzeel - Belgium • Tel: +32 (0)2 759 59 30 • Fax: +32 (02) 759 55 40 • Email: info@enissa.com
