HEAVY METAL REMOVAL

The content of heavy metals in waste is primarily a consequence of the use of heavy metals in industrial products. At the end of their useful life all products will end up in waste to the extent they are not attractive for recycling. Exposure to heavy metals in waste can have potential harmful effects to humans and the environment. Filtronics has identified 21 heavy metals of concern, the most common include copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), zinc (Zn), chrome (Cr), and cadmium (Cd). The removal of heavy metals from wastewater streams has become an extremely important field in the last few years. With the enactment of the “Clean Water Act” and its amendments, industry has been required to meet even more stringent levels of water quality in their wastewater.
