How Horizontal Remediation Wells Can Accelerate Closure at Pay-For-Performance Sites

Introduction:

Pay-for-performance agreements set a firm, fixed price for remediation at impacted sites using predetermined contamination reduction goals. Remediation contractors are rewarded for quickly and efficiently reaching cleanup goals, which results in fast, more cost-effective cleanups.

Whether conventionally contracted or PFP, Horizontal Remediation Wells  (HRWs) are the best choice for many reasons: 

• HRWs  typically employ well screens that are hundred of feet long, placing far more screen in contact with impacted media 
• Superior physics of delivery and greater air flow through the horizontal screen results in superior pore volume exchange, resulting in faster cleanup 
• HRWs are cost competitive and in many cases, more competitive than vertical wells especially at sites where impacts are situated beneath structures, roads, airport runways, and wetlands.
